Maldives 2021 Day 7 - Say It Isn't So

I don’t even know how we got here already but somehow we are on our last full day here at the St. Regis Maldives. What felt like the far future is now tomorrow and so on cue today started with the Maldives crying for us this morning shower. But as everyone on the island told us when it rains it pours and then it quickly stops and that’s exactly what happened this morning. We luckily didn’t have tennis until the afternoon today so we lounged around watching the rain pass us by and then made our way to breakfast. Not much new to report from the breakfast front today, Jenn and I both stuck with our usuals, the eggs, and waffles for Jenn and the duck confit for me. With the cloudy morning, we took our time and by the time we left to head back the sun began to pop out and the small sharks were hanging at the main beach.

I wish I had more interesting stories to tell but after breakfast we spent the majority of the day reading, relaxing, and swimming in our pool. Outside of a brief shark sighting on our way back to breakfast we kept things pretty low-key today. Jenn finished yet another book, this time, In Five Years by Rebecca Serle and I marched towards the end of The Institute by Stephen King. A little before noon we were whisked away to a garden villa where they took our PCR tests that we needed 48 hours prior to landing in Abu Dhabi. Luckily I brought some at-home tests with us (that I got from work) and knew we were good but we got the tests and were back to relaxing.

At 4 PM we made our way to the tennis courts for the last time. We thought maybe in the afternoon we’d get a better breeze but the court remained quite humid. Luckily given it was our last day on the courts we gave it everything we had and played the best we’ve played the entire trip. I have to say playing tennis with Jenn was one of the big highlights of the trip for me personally, if you ask Jenn she’s probably already forgotten we played.

After tennis, we came back, dipped in the pool again, and got ready for dinner. For our last night in the Maldives, we thought it’d be best to stick with our personal favorite Alba. Almost the entire team at Alba knew us by now and so they all greeted us and asked how we were doing and how our trip was going. We were incredibly grateful to have so many of them tell us their stories, what they did during the shutdown (COVID) and how their time at the resort had been. For dinner, Jenn got the mushroom risotto and I had the truffle fettuccine. Both meals were divine and made even better by the absolutely beautiful sunset that we got to watch as our meal came to a close.

I’ll never forget walking back to our villa hand in hand with Jenn reminiscing on our trip and wishing it wasn’t coming to a close. On most trips, I get to a point where I am ready to move on to the next place but this time there was so much peace, joy, and comfort here that it made it hard to come to grips with this being our last night here. But alas all good things must come to an end and so too did our last night here in the Maldives. Tomorrow we are off to Male and then to Abu Dhabi. Until then goodnight beautiful island we will soak up every last second tomorrow.
