TV Review: Daredevil Season 1
I rarely watch TV shows on my own. Most of the time Jenn and I will suffer through a show that the other likes. More times then not it's Jenn suffering through one my shows. However I would argue that watching one episode of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette should grant me a season of any show of my choosing. But I digress. When I saw the trailer for Daredevil at the beginning of 2015 I had a good feeling about it but I knew I'd never be able to get Jenn to watch it with me.
Turning 29 Was a Lot of Fun
Growing up birthdays were always a big deal. My parents always did a great job of making sure the day was special. Jenn knows that I'm basically a 29 year-old kid so she's kept the tradition alive. This year though, she went all out. Although I do have one gripe, we did promise not to get each other gifts this year. So instead of buying me a gift she scheduled an entire day for us. I still think that was cheating but its water under the bridge at this point.
Saying Goodbye to The Daily Show With Jon Stewart
At some point in 2011 Jenn recommended we check out The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Comedy Central. The only thing I knew about Jon Stewart at the time was that he had an acting role in the Adam Sandler movie, Big Daddy. Probably not something he wants to be remembered for. After the first episode of The Daily Show we were hooked. It became a nightly ritual. A staple in our home. He challenged a lot of what we believed at the time. Gay marriage, abortion, racial equality, veterans health care, the financial crisis, the modern 24/7 news outlets. The list goes on and on.
TV Review: Orange is the New Black Season 3
We here at the Szerlip household are big fans of Orange is the New Black. It's completely different then anything else we watch. But the show has struggled with making its main story arch compelling (I'm looking at you Piper). And I think Netflix and the producers of Orange is the New Black have finally started to hear the feedback. People love the show. Jenn and I love the show. But the shows lead characters are the least interesting parts of Orange is the New Black. And so after two seasons we started to see a shift. Much of Season 3 focused on the prisoners and the prison staff and less on Piper and her crazy mood swings.
Movie Review: Me Earl and the Dying Girl
Every year there's a movie that comes out of Sundance that ends up transcending into a bit of commercial success. We're not talking Jurassic World numbers or anything. That movie this year that received a ton of buzz out at Sundance was Me Earl and the Dying Girl. A coming of age story about a young guy (Greg) and his friendship with both Earl (his friend) and the dying girl (Rachel). The premise is right there in the title. It's about Greg and his relationship with his two friends and their impact on his life.
Welcome to Our Latest Abode - Our High Rise Apartment
By now you've probably read my post "Sometimes the Right Decisions Are the Toughest Decisions". In that I talked in depth about our struggle to decide what to do with our home. Spoiler, we sold it. When we accepted the offer for our home we had (no exaggeration) 14 days to find a place to live and move out. Crazy right? We went to look at a a couple of places but fell in love with one place in particular the Essex Skyline.
