Movie Review: 22 Jump Street
I'm going to be completely honest, I don't really remember 21 Jump Street. Other then knowing I saw the movie and knowing that Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill were the stars of the movie I really don't remember it. However when Jenn and I were searching out a movie to see on our Phoenix Trip we decided that a comedy would be perfect, and 22 Jump Street met that criteria.
With little to no expectations for a good movie, both Jenn and I were pleasantly surprised by how funny 22 Jump Street ended up being. First off the movie makes a ton of references to the first movie and the insanity of the plot. Luckily Jenn whispered a few of the references too me otherwise I wouldn't have noticed. The self awareness of the movie was by far its greatest strength. Most of the time the movie was just making fun of itself.
Although not the best comedy I know that at least every five minutes there was something to laugh at. The lady that sat next to me was crying pretty much from the opening scene to the finish. In fact speaking of the finish. The scenes while the credits were rolling making fun of future "Jump Street" movies might have been my favorite part of the movie. The self-awareness while making fun of a sequel driven industry was refreshing. Probably not everyones cup of tea but both Jenn and I loved it. Very funny movie.
