Book Review: A Man of Some Repute

It's been a long time since I've read a good old fashion murder mystery. When I first into reading this was one of my favorite genres. I really love the guessing games that come with these types of novels and trying to figure out who committed the murder. A Man of Some Repute takes place right after WWII in a small town outside of London. The murder actually took place nearly seven years after the murder took place and the case is re-opened after the body is found.

Book Review: Throne of Glass

I've read some truly amazing young adult novels in the last couple of years. Whether it be popular franchises like The Hunger Games or Divergent to lesser known ones like Steelheart and The Rithmatist. Going in, I assumed Throne of Glass might be a top tier young adult fantasy novel. I mean if you just look at the reviews it sure sounded like it was at least in the conversation. But after reading and finish Throne of Glass I can say it's one of the dullest reads I've had in a long time.

Book Review: Fates and Furies

I like many before me read Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff after hearing that President Obama called it his favorite book of 2015. As a side note, is this the first time he's announced his favorite book of the year or is this just the first I'm hearing of it? And what an interesting novel to choose as your favorite book the year. After completing Fates and Furies I can see why someone could love it, but it's not what I'd call a "fun read".

2016 Reading Challenge: Books 11-15

Last time I wrote one of these reading challenge updates I was a couple of books ahead of schedule. After reading the incredibly long A Little Life I fell back to "on-pace" to complete the 28 books I set out to read for 2016. So far I've held pretty firm on my reading lists only making one change to the list after publishing (I'm looking at you Life After Life). So without further ado here are the next five books on my reading list.

Book Review: The Long Earth

I've read a lot of books where I love the concept at the inception and then fall out of love with it as the story goes along. But what's interesting about The Long Earth is that its concept remains pure and a mind bending throughout. The idea is that on a random day an invention called a "stepper" is released and it allows almost the entire world to move to other versions of Earth.

Book Review: A Little Life

It took me a long time to finish A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. It's a tough book to read. It's not hard to follow, nor does it have a complicated narrative. A Little Life is a hard book to read because it demands the reader to be a spectator to a group of guys lives that are both brilliant and heartbreaking. It's one of the most unrelenting narratives I've ever read.
