2016 Reading Challenge: Books 11-15
Last time I wrote one of these reading challenge updates I was a couple of books ahead of schedule. After reading the incredibly long A Little Life I fell back to "on-pace" to complete the 28 books I set out to read for 2016. So far I've held pretty firm on my reading lists only making one change to the list after publishing (I'm looking at you Life After Life). So without further ado here are the next five books on my reading list.
#11: Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff
This is a first but I took the book recommendation of President Obama for this book pick. When asked what his favorite book of 2015 was, Obama said that it was Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff a book that I've heard is in the same vein of Gone Girl. It sounds interesting so I'm really interested to see if it was worth the heavy praise from our nations President.
#12: A Man of Some Repute by Elizabeth Edmondson
It's been a really long time since I read just an old-school who-dun-it mystery novel. I grabbed A Man of Some Repute on one Audible's daily sales and have been meaning to read it for some time. I'm hoping this is a really well written but easy flowing and fun mystery. Here's to hoping.
#13: Red Rising by Pierce Brown
Speaking of hope, of all the books on this list I'm most hopeful that Red Rising wow's me. If you look on most of my reading lists I oscillate between literary fiction, historical fiction and fantasy with very little sci-fi. I'm hoping Red Rising is the book that finally gets me into a good old fashion science fiction novel. From what I've heard it's really good.
#14: When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi
I've said this on every single one of these reading plan posts, but I'm really trying to break out and read different genres and types of books. When Breath Becomes Air was written for the most part Paul Kalanithi a neurosurgeon who was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer. He didn't get to finish this book before his passed away but from what I've heard his words are both profound and hard to swallow. Don't plan on this being a fun read, but an important one.
#15: The Life We Bury by Allen Eskens
This book is actually my first pick for the GamersRead book club that I started with some folks over on my video game website Darkstation. This is a book that I've seen on the best sellers list for a long time now and the concept sounds really interesting. I used to love these types of mystery/thrillers so I'm interested to see how this one turns out. I really hope its good because I'm making the rest of the book club read it.
