Yesterday was a dream come true. When we went to sleep last night, the glow of being at Machu Picchu hadn't worn off. When we woke up this morning I was officially a year older and we were both completely exhausted. But as Jenn likes to say, no rest for the weary. 

The day has finally come, the one that we've been waiting for since Jenn first put together a bucket list of trip items together over ten years ago. Today's the day we made the trek to Machu Picchu. We woke up at around 6:30 AM and got ready with the plan to leave at 7:30 AM. At around 7 AM we realized that the train didn't leave at 8:30 AM but we needed to check in at that time to depart the station a little after 9:00 AM.

From the moment we landed in Cusco two days ago we've been moving along, not letting anything get in our way. Today, was a designated day to slow down, recoup, and enjoy the city of Cusco before two big days ahead. We didn't get out of bed until close to 9 AM and really the only reason we did was breakfast ended at 10 AM. We headed down in our bare essentials, had breakfast, and enjoyed a beautiful morning at our hotel.

One of the big concerns when I think anyone books a trip to Cusco is adjusting to the altitude. Luckily so far it's been pretty good for both of us. We were able to fall asleep with ease last night after a great first day in Cusco and were ready for yet another adventure in Peru. We began our day with our included breakfast through the hotel, which was the perfect way to start the day. Jenn went with eggs and waffles and I had an omelet with bacon and sausage.

There have been many times during Jenn and I's travel that it's felt surreal to sit down and write about where we are. I'll never forget sitting at our desk at the JW Marriott in Bejing starring out at a huge thunder and lightning storm, or writing from Switzerland after two days of flight insanity. Today I'm writing from Cusco, Peru a place that quite honestly I was never sure Jenn and I would ever visit. 

I've really struggled with how to write these posts. I usually only have one post a year that talks about the big adventure Jenn and I are going to go on for the year. This year we've already gone to Chicago and the Grand Canyon and are only a couple of days from boarding a plane to Peru. We also have a 3+ week trip to Asia coming in November. And yet that's not where our travels end. Over the last couple of weeks, we booked two trips to continue our insane travel itinerary. The first is a trip over Labor Day weekend to New York City to cross off a bucket list item for me, the US Open.
