3D Trip 2022 Day 6 - 3 Countries, 6 Stamps

Over the last five years, Jenn and I have become more and more interested in wine. We’ve done several wine clubs and I tend to bother Jenn with interesting facts about the wines we drink. We also have found going on wine tours in different countries to be some of the best tours we’ve taken. When we were doing research for Dubrovnik there were two tours we knew we had to do, one was the Game of Thrones tour yesterday, and the other was the 3 Country 3 Wineries tour. This morning we woke up early had a brief breakfast downstairs and were off with our tour guide Milo at 9 AM.

From our hotel, we drove to the Bosnia border where we quickly got stamps from both Croatia and Bosnia borders before making our way to our first stop of the tour, a monastery, in the town of Trebinje. We walked the beautiful grounds and had a picturesque view of the surrounding town before getting back in the touring van to the Orthodox monastery of Tvrdos. When we arrived I was given a skirt to wear to cover my legs and we were off to sample three different Bosnian wines that had in a cellar that dated back to the 15th century. We started off with white wine and closed off with their two most popular red wines (although Jenn did substitute one for a Rose). With the wine, we were given a plate of cheese that was made at the monastery that was delicious. Our wine guide at the stop was amazing, very friendly, and continued to check on us to make sure everything was perfect. From there we did a brief tour of the property, bought a bottle of wine, and were off.

Throughout the tour, Milo continued to remind us that the borders can at times be a mess. Luckily for us, we never had an issue even though he thought we would. We made our way from Bosnia to Montenegro for our second winery. We arrived at the Savina winery a little after noon and got a beautiful table overlooking Kotor bay on a perfect afternoon. With a slight breeze, we enjoyed another three wines and a full charcuterie board that was divine. It was one of those moments that Jenn and I knew 6-months, a year, maybe even five years from now we would look back on fondly. We enjoyed a white, rose, and a red while here but more than anything we chowed down on the delicious cheese bread, cheese and meats.

Our last stop on the tour was back in Croatia and we took a different route to hopefully avoid a long border crossing. Luckily we only had a couple of cars in front of us and we were off. Unfortunately, our third winery was far and away the least enjoyable. Sadly unlike the first two stops we were in a dark room where we were given five wines to drink and a decent charcuterie board where the highlight was the fresh olive oil. We blitzed through these wines before getting back in the van with Milo and back to Dubrovnik.

We arrived back at our hotel a little after 4 PM and were both exhausted. It was such a fun but busy day that by the end of it and over ten tastings later we were done for the day, especially me. We contemplated going down for dinner but were relieved to find that they didn’t have any reservations left. Instead, we watched two excruciating episodes of Indian Matchmaker on Netflix and fell asleep early catching up on some much-needed sleep. Cheers to more wine, each and every day!
