Movie Review: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
I really enjoyed the original Hunger Games. It had a great cast and did an excellent job of recreating the novel its based on. In fact it might have been the closest retelling of a book I've seen. Going into the second movie, Catching Fire, I knew that this movie had an uphill battle ahead of it. Catching Fire is easily the least interesting book of the trilogy.
Second New Console This Year, The Xbox One
One week following the release of the Playstation 4, comes the Xbox One. As a huge fan of video games (I own a video game website for reference) this sort of experience is the pinnacle of my obsession. Consider that a console life cycle historically averages 7-10 years and you can begin to understand the magnitude of a release. So when I heard the Xbox One and Playstation 4 would be releasing a week apart it just sounded too good to be true.
Greatness Arrives, I Got My Playstation 4
In February 2013 Sony announced the Playstation 4. From that point to this past Friday (November 15th) I've been giddy excited for the console to finally arrive. This past Friday UPS delivered my Playstation 4 via Amazon and I couldn't be happier.
Movie Review: About Time
I've been searching for that movie. The one that makes me think. The one that warms my heart and makes me want to go back and immediately re-watch it. Well I think I found it in About Time. I've professed my love for books/movies with time travel in them, so going in About Time already had a leg up. However what I didn't expect was one of the best movies I've seen all year.
The Best Ten Years of My Life
It all began ten years ago today.
On November 3, 2003 a beautiful winter afternoon I finally summoned the courage to ask Jenn out. This wasn't the first time I'd asked her. Two months prior I was turned down, being told that she wasn't ready. My heart was broken but not enough to stop me from trying again. Our friendship grew, I fell even harder for her, and on that day I finally mustered enough courage to ask her again.
Decorating Pumpkins - 2013 Edition
Every year since the year after we started dating, I took part of the Carpenter tradition of painting pumpkins. I remember back in 2004 when I did my first pumpkin painting and unlike the Carpenter family I have zero artistic skill, so needless to say I was both nervous and intimidated knowing that they were all super artistic.
Needless to say ten years later we are keeping the tradition alive. Jenn and I had our whole Sunday planned out. We woke up at a reasonable time and headed to Strawberry Farms in Irvine to go pick up our pumpkin. Having never gone there we were amazed with how gigantic the place was. I mean truly enormous. We spent quite a bit of time searching for the "perfect pumpkin" and managed to stumble on three great ones.
