Movie Review: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

I really enjoyed the original Hunger Games. It had a great cast and did an excellent job of recreating the novel its based on. In fact it might have been the closest retelling of a book I've seen. Going into the second movie, Catching Fire, I knew that this movie had an uphill battle ahead of it. Catching Fire is easily the least interesting book of the trilogy.

In many ways its a short bridge that links book one and three, and the journey over that short bridge isn't overly interesting. The problem with Catching Fire is that it felt like a repeat of the first film. That's more a complaint of its source material rather then the movie but its still an issue. I remember thinking these scenes feel familiar to the first, and I feel like we have done this already. It will be interesting to see what they do with the third movie as the scope greatly expands and so does the tone.

All in all I would watch Catching Fire again but more if it was on as a trilogy and not as a standalone movie.
