The Future of Home Energy - Tesla Powerwall
I'll never forget the day that Steve Jobs stood on the Apple stage and unveiled the iPhone. Never would anyone have imagined how much the introduction of the iPhone would have changed the world. Since his passing I have always wondered who would be the next big innovator. I think we have our answer, Elon Musk.
Movie Review: Avengers: Age of Ultron
This is really hard to believe but Jenn and I haven't seen a movie in theaters at all this year. A lot of that has to do with buying the house which has taken up a lot of our life. We absolutely love the movies so it was time to make amends for that and what a better way to start the year of movies then to go see the follow-up to the excellent Avengers movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Movie Review: The Theory of Everything
Last year I started to keep a list of movies I wanted to see. Whether it was from Academy Award season, or trailers I saw online, or just movies I didn't want to forget about. On the top of that list for the last six to nine months was The Theory of Everything. With all the stress that comes with purchasing a home we missed seeing The Theory of Everything in theaters. A couple weekends back we rented it on iTunes (for $6) and endured the 2+ hour movie.
TV Review: The Good Wife Season 1 & 2
When Jenn and I moved into our house a couple months ago we were desperately trying to find new TV shows to watch. Since we've gotten really into TV over the last couple of years we've heard tons of good things about CBS's The Good Wife. The show has won a ton of awards over the years and seems to be a critical darling. With our Amazon Prime membership we get the first five seasons for free so we decided to jump in.
Cutting the Cord: Life without Cable TV
Back in the fall of 2014 Jenn and I made the decision that we talked about doing for years; canceling cable. When we rented our first apartment together in 2009 we signed up for cable and have had it ever since. We carried two DVR's and just basic HD cable. Our bill (through Cox) was around $150-170 which included Cable and Internet. While we had cable we also carried Netflix and Amazon Prime.
Casa de Szerlip: Belkin WeMo LED Lighting Starter Kit
OK Joel have you really run out of things to talk about? You're really going to have a post dedicated to light bulbs? My answer to anyone asking those questions is absolutely. In the pursuit of a smarter home one of the most popular ways to start is with something everyone has and needs lightbulbs. There are two companies hitting the "smart lighting" scene Phillips and Belkin. After doing a lot of research there seemed to be very little difference between the bulbs themselves, the difference came down to their iOS apps and expandability. For me Belkin seemed like the frontrunner there so for Christmas this past year I was lucky enough to get the Belkin WeMo LED Lighting Starter Kit.
