Recap of My Goals for 2020 - How Did I Do?

What a challenging year to really keep any goal. By the end of March, the world had completely come to a stop and it really hasn’t come back since. I had set a few goals that were no longer going to be possible like 13 tasting menus or 300 runs. But even with the year working against me I was able to at least accomplish a lot of what I set out to do.

GOAL #1: READ 40 BOOKS - ACHIEVED

I love to read. Even more than my love for reading is my love for finding books to read. So as the years go by and my goals get bigger and bigger I find the pursuit of new books to read to be even more fun and challenging. The fact that I was able to read 40 books in 2020 is something I am incredibly proud of. I thought it would be fun to go through the 40 books I read this year and break them up into the scores I gave them on Goodreads.

Of those 40 books here is how it broke out:

  • 1 Star Reads - 1 book (2%)

  • 2 Star Reads - 3 books (7%)

  • 3 Star Reads - 12 books (30%)

  • 4 Star Reads - 13 books (33%)

  • 5 Star Reads - 11 books (28%)

Over the years I’ve continued to push my reading challenge to at least 1 more book per year. I started these Goodreads annual reading challenges in 2012 with 20 books. I’ve always hit my reading goals. Here’s how its progressed over the years with my annual goals.

Reading Goals Over the Years

GOAL #2: RUN 300 TIMES IN 2020 - FAILED

I did not even get close to hitting this goal. In fact, 2020 will be the least I’ve run in 4-5 years. This year I ran 182 times with a three-month break between April - June and several gym openings and closings throughout the year. It’s funny when I look back I see I started 2020 well on pace to hit the 300 but by the time lockdowns hit NYC it was all over. I remember my last run both in Newport and NYC in the gym and wondering when the next time I’ll get a treadmill run in. Hopefully in 2021!

GOAL #3: KEEP WEIGHT UNDER 140LBS - ACHIEVED

I hit my goal again in 2020 although I’m not happy with how my weight has slowly started to creep up I’ve been able to avoid going over the 140 mark for over 5 years and I don’t plan on going over it anytime soon.

GOAL #4: EAT AT A TOTAL OF 13 TASTING MENUS - FAILED

We went to two tasting menus in 2020. That’s all we got in before everything stopped. Luckily Red Paper Clip and Rezdora were phenomenal meals even if they were so early in 2020 that it’s hard to even imagine being at either place right now. Hopefully, with the vaccine rolling out, we can hit the remaining 11 we were supposed to do this year in 2021.

GOAL #5: WRITE UP 12 MONTHLY POSTS IN 2020 - ACHIEVED

It’s been a really tough year to keep up with the monthly posts. They just haven’t been fun to write or to go through like in years past. Most of the monthly posts include a recap of working from home, Hello fresh meals we made, and the sporadic ventures out of our apartment when we’ve been able and allowed to. And yet I’ve kept up with them all year and I know one day will enjoy looking back on the year that was 2020.
