Movie Review: Dumb and Dumber To
Ranking my favorite movies of all-time is a really hard thing to do. There are movies that I love today that I'm not sure I will love 5 or 10 years from now. One movie though that has remained in at least my Top 5 movies of all time is Dumb and Dumber. Its not a movie I watch often, its probably been three years since I saw the original at the time of this writing. But I just love the movie. When I heard about Dumb and Dumber To I can say I was equal parts excited and horrified.
I know we live in an age of reinvesting in old known properties. There was something sacred for me about Dumb and Dumber that wasn't tarnished about the forgotten and not very good Dumb and Dumberer. But to have both Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey come back to give it another go was really saying something. A couple weeks ago Jake and I went to go see Dumb and Dumber To and I can say that it wasn't bad. My biggest gripe might be my biggest compliment to the movie and that was that it did a great job of hitting a bunch of nostalgic beats that any fan of the original will know instantly. Heck just seeing Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey in these roles again reminded me of the 100's of times watching this movie as a kid. The Farrelly Brothers stayed extremely close to the formula of the first movie, almost as an exact replica.
For me I think I give Dumb and Dumber To a pass because its some of my favorite memories recaptured in a new movie. Was it a good movie? Not really, but I laughed quite a bit, and am glad I saw it. But will I probably buy it when it's released? Most definitely.
