Breakfast Review: Richard Walker's Pancake House

Over the last month or so Jenn and I have been staying at my grandma's condo in Downtown San Diego over the weekends. Why is a long story that I'm sure I'll get into at some point, but for now just roll with me. They've been great weekend getaways where we get to enjoy the beautiful Downtown San Diego near the marina and during those getaways we've been eating some pretty out of this world breakfasts.

Chef Joel & Jenn: Red Curry Chicken Drumsticks

I'm not even sure if this can count as a "Chef Joel & Jenn". The recipe for the Red Curry Chicken Drumsticks came courtesy of Trader Joe's website. Have I mentioned how much I love Trader Joes? I never understood people when they would rave about Trader Joes. I used to think why would I want to have to shop at Traders and go to the grocery store to get normal stuff like paper towels and shampoo? Over the last year or so I now know why. Its a unique place and they have some really great food items.

Dinner Review: SWSH Shabu Shabu

I wouldn't call Jenn the most adventurous eater, but gosh has she gotten better over the years. When Jenn and I first started dating we were limited to really four different options for food. Hamburgers, Steak, Quesadillas and Spaghetti. That was it. Ten years later she's eating Sushi, Thai and Indian Food, Fish, and all sorts of different dishes. She still is hesitant to dip her toe into new things but she's getting better. Me on the hand, when it comes to food the only answer I know is yes please.

Chef Joel & Jenn: Sous Vide Filet Mignon

I've been wanting to get a Sous Vide for at least a year now. What's a Sous Vide you ask? In french it is translated to under vacuum. The idea is pretty simple. You want to get a pot of water to a certain temperature and keep it there. The Sous Vide device is what regulates the temperature. The reason they call it under vacuum is that you put your food in a vacuum sealed bag. It's a really easy device to use. You set the temperature of the bath to get the meat/fish/chicken/vegetables to there perfect cooked temperature and keep them there without overcooking them. Restaurants have been using them for years and I first heard about it watching Top Chef.

Chef Joel & Jenn: Roasted Italian Sausage, Peppers and Potatoes

Its already been a month since our last recipe for Chef Joel & Jenn where we recreated an incredible Spaghetti Carbonara. Have I mentioned how much I miss Europe? The last month or so how has been insanely busy (a lot more on that in a future post) but finally we found some relief two days before Christmas to try a new dish. One of my favorite things to cook are what are labeled as one pot meals. Its just easier. There is less prep, less cooking, and less cleanup. So when I stumbled upon this recipe I knew we had to try it.
