Dinner Review: Juliette Kitchen & Bar (Plus an evening at Disneyland)
Buying a house was expensive. For almost two years Jenn and I buckled down and saved a ton of money to purchase our home. As such I haven't had a lot of these restaurant review type of posts. The last dinner post I wrote was back in February at SWSH Shabu Shabu (although I did two breakfast review posts in March/April). This past Friday night Jenn and I decided we needed to get out and try a new place. So we went to what is considered on Yelp one of the best places to eat in Newport Beach, Juliette Kitchen & Bar.
To say that Jenn and I have wanted to eat here for a while is an understatement. Jenn bought me a gift card for Christmas, in 2013. That's right we've been sitting on this gift card for almost a year and a half. We made reservations and got to the restaurant at 5:30pm. At that time there were only a few couples there. By the time we left at close to 7PM the place was packed. We both started off with a glass of wine. Jenn had a Cab and I had a Cab/Merlot blend. Jenn's was out of this world. I'm really bummed we can't remember what it was called because its one I would have picked up.
We had a big lunch so we skipped appetizers and went straight for our main courses. Jenn got the roasted duck which was out of this world. The sauce that they cooked the duck in was spectacular. I kind of wish I had gotten it as well. I went with the Juliette Burger which was really good. I'd give it a 4/5. The beef was super tender I just wasn't in love with the jam spread on the burger nor the lack of fries with the burger. For $17 just small thing of fries would have been nice.
When our waitress came with the dessert menu I was ready to outright decline but Jenn had other ideas. She saw the first item on the menu the Salted Caramel Pot de Creme and said she had to have it. I got a cup of coffee (Blue Bottle Coffee) and it was settled. The dessert was one of the best I've ever had. It was so rich and sweet. It was amazing. The coffee wasn't too bad either.
When we got to our car we both knew we weren't ready to go home. So I continued down to the 73, jumped on to the 55 and were off to Disneyland. I haven't mentioned yet (and will in a future post in more detail) that we got an annual pass to Disneyland. Needless to say we love going and this evening was no different. We got to the park, walked from the parking structure to the entrance and went into California Adventure. We started our evening on Monsters Inc (walked on), missed the fast pass by two seconds on Tower of Terror, then went to A Bugs Life show, and finished the night by me laying the smackdown on Jenn on Toy Story Mania (first time I ever won). It was such an amazing night that I cannot wait to do this more often.
