Book Review: The Long Earth

I've read a lot of books where I love the concept at the inception and then fall out of love with it as the story goes along. But what's interesting about The Long Earth is that its concept remains pure and a mind bending throughout. The idea is that on a random day an invention called a "stepper" is released and it allows almost the entire world to move to other versions of Earth.

Book Review: A Little Life

It took me a long time to finish A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. It's a tough book to read. It's not hard to follow, nor does it have a complicated narrative. A Little Life is a hard book to read because it demands the reader to be a spectator to a group of guys lives that are both brilliant and heartbreaking. It's one of the most unrelenting narratives I've ever read.

Book Review: Cometh the Hour

There's something to be said for consistency. Although Jeffrey Archer has written some truly amazing novels over the years, the longer the Clifton Chronicles goes the more familiar his tropes become. Cometh the Hour is the sixth (out of seven planned) book in the series, a series in my opinion which feels like its overstayed its welcome. However unlike the last two novels which had some truly outlandish set pieces, Cometh the Hour felt more like a return to form.

Book Review: Slaughterhouse-Five

As I grow more and more in love with reading I have been trying to expand out to authors I haven't already been exposed to. I take recommendations from wherever I can get them. I read a book last year, The Universe Versus Alex Woods that spent a lot of time talking about a book club that just focused in on the work of Kurt Vonnegut. These raving endorsements put Vonnegut on my radar and so this past week I read through my first Vonnegut novel, Slaughterhouse-Five.

2016 Reading Challenge: Books 6-10

I’m happy to say that at the time of this writing I’m a couple of books ahead of my plan to read 28 books in 2016. Part of that is that the first couple of books I read were of the shorter variety and the other part is that I’ve really been loving everything I’ve been reading. I’m now ready to make the list of the next five books I’m going to read as part of my push to read 28 books in 2016. Here we go with books six through ten.
