Europe Trip 2012: Day 4 (June 25, 2012): On Top of the World
The trip is now officially underway. After the international travel nightmare and the beautiful train ride into St. Moritz now the trip can really begin. In typical Joel and Jenn fashion we did not adjust to the time change that well. We woke up this morning at around 1:30AM and were wide awake. We laid around, looked at our first batch of pictures, Jenn re-packed her suitcase, and we were all around lazy until we went down to breakfast at 8:30. The breakfast buffet is included with the price of the room at the Kempinski, and not only is the breakfast buffet one of the best we have ever been to, I believe it may be the best period. Let’s start with the selection. You have six different freshly squeezed juices, champagne, and every type of coffee or espresso imaginable. And the best part is everything we have tried so far has been delicious. Even though it was our first of four free breakfasts we both tried all sorts of interesting dishes. Jenn fell in love with the grape yogurt and I was torn between the breakfast pizza and the cold meats. Needless to say we loved breakfast and look forward to taking full advantage the next three days.
Europe Trip 2012: Day 3 (June 24, 2012): Heaven on Earth
The day started with Jenn and I taking a nine hour journey from Atlanta, Georgia to Zurich, Switzerland. It was the first international flight either of us has taken that we didn't have an individual screen in the seat in front of us. Luckily I had loaded plenty to keep me busy with on my iPad and Jenn was busy planning out the next twenty days of vacation. The flight was pretty non-eventful and got is in right around 8AM Switzerland time.
Europe Trip 2012 Day 2 (June 23, 2012): A New Day
When we left you yesterday the trip seemed to be off to as rocky of a start as we could have imagined. There were points during the day that getting on a plane going anywhere didn't seem like a possibility.
During our flight into Atlanta we had a free 15 minutes of Wi-Fi which I used to book us a night at the Atlanta Gateway Marriott. We ended up arriving into Atlanta on-time but to no surprise to either Jenn or I our bags weren't there. I was shocked but Jenn really handled that like a champ. We went to the luggage desk and had an extremely nice lady who spent a good half hour trying to get someone in LAX to rush our bags in time to make our 4:45PM flight to Zurich. We left there at around 1AM feeling somewhat confident that our luggage would be there when we got back later in the day.
Europe Trip 2012 Day 1 (June 22, 2012): We Can't Help You With That
What a day. As I write today's entry I am sitting on a flight headed to Atlanta. Why Atlanta you may be wondering? Well let's start at the beginning.
The lead up to this trip has been intense. This past weekend Jenn hit her toe into the couch and found out on Monday that it was broken. Two days ago Jenn and I realized we had more stuff to bring to Europe then would be physically possible to bring in our suitcases. And today has been the nightmare travel experience that people always tell stories of but we have never had to experience ourselves.
Where Are The Europe Trip 2012 Daily Posts?
It was with every intent that I was going to post daily updates to our trip this year as it happened. Unfortunately due to technical difficulties with my brothers MacBook Pro it looks like that may not happen until next Monday (July 2nd) when we start the cruise as the European converter fried the MacBook Pro power cable. So with that being said each day will be posted at some point but when that point is I'm not sure yet.
Europe Trip 2012: Pre-Packing for the Big Trip
If I'm being honest I am always excited for vacations, but since its been 9 months since our last real vacation I am even more excited for this years trip. As you will see over the coming days Jenn and I will be taking three weeks off from work and traveling all over Europe. However what is almost as fun as going on the trip is planning for the trip.
