Globe Trotting J's 2019 Trip Day 13: Atlas Class

One of my biggest goals of 2019 has been to be more grateful. Its taking the couple of minutes each day to realize everything that I have in my life and how fortunate and lucky I am. Coming off of yesterday where we spent three hours at the Dharavi slums and then came back to the 5* resort at the Four Seasons Mumbai to then get pampered in the spa and have a fancy Indian dinner isn’t lost on me. Nor is the fact that this morning we were picked up from said resort in a BMW to take us to the Mumbai International Airport to go on a five hour journey from Mumbai to Singapore, when most of our tour guides or hotel staff we talk to have never left their home country.

Thus far we’ve done economy class on our flights in-between spots, but Jenn and I decided to splurge a little bit on business class tickets from Mumbai to Singapore. We arrived at the airport in under a half hour and checked into our flight and got expressed through security/customs in the business class lines. We made our way to the stunning GVK Lounge, but on the way Jenn spotted a Starbucks where she upgraded our current India mug (that we got a few years ago) to a New Delhi mug brining our total to four mugs on the trip thus far. When we arrived at the lounge we grabbed some loungers and then went to get a small breakfast. I just had a cappuccino, Jenn had an omelette with champagne, and Jake got a few items from the buffet. We had almost two-hours in the lounge and it was one of the best we’ve been in. I worked on catching up on my posts, Jake edited photos, and Jenn finished her first book of the trip. When we departed at 11:15 we made our way to the plane and walked right on to our business class tickets.

I’ll repeat what I said on the first day post but business class is still like me at 8 going to Disneyland for the first time. I get giddy excited. I know I’m in for a relaxing time with good food, great service, and a comfy spot. I was even more excited to share Jake’s first experience in the business class section where at first he seemed overwhelmed but later settled in and enjoyed the experience. When we arrived we were greeted with welcome drinks and then our lunch orders were taken. Jenn and Jake had the chicken breast and I had the kung pow seafood. Jenn of course started with some baileys and I may have had a few glasses of champagne (my kryptonite).

Jenn finished up the movie Titanic right as she was served her cheese plate and it was only a few minutes later that we all asked for our seats to be converted to a bed. For the next two hours we all turned off the lights and fell asleep until one of the flight attendants lightly woke us all up and put our beds back into seats. A few minutes later we touched down in Singapore, quickly disembarked our plane and made our way through the stunning Singapore airport and off through customs to pick up our bags and grab a taxi.

The drive from the airport to our hotel was only twenty minutes and we were dropped off and checked into our room only a few minutes later. After a quick room tour we had only a few minutes to make our reservation for the evening at one of the best bars in the world (according to top 50 bars in the world its #18) Atlas Bar. We arrived right at 10PM for our reservation and got a seat in this stunning venue. When you walk in you feel immediately transported to the 1920’s with golden and black decor and F. Scott Fitzgerald quotes everywhere the eye can see.

Once we sat down and stopped taking photos we ordered our drinks. Jake had a gin and tonic, I had an old fashion, and Jenn had a French 75 (all of our go-to’s). We also ordered some light snacks including a charcuterie board, french fries, and bread. The drinks were out of this world, the food was great, and the ambience was beyond imagination. Had we not all been exhausted from the travel and excited for the next four days in Singapore I could have seen us stay there all night. It was one of the most amazing venues I’ve ever been to and I don’t know if I’ve ever tried better drinks. It’s an experience I’ll never forget and I hope more then anything that wasn’t our last experience at Atlas.

We left at close to midnight and went back to our room, unpacked, watched the end of Deadpool 2 and fell asleep sometime after the close of the day. We had such a great time in Mumbai but the energy when we arrived in Singapore was indescribable and I cannot tell you how excited I am to see what the rest of this trip has in store for us.

Here’s to alcohol, the rose colored glasses of life.
