French Open Trip 2018 Day 2: The Lake's Half Full
We try so hard to fight jet lag, but so far jet lag is undefeated. We woke up in the middle of the wee hours of the morning and watched some Netflix before falling back asleep at 6 AM before waking up at 10 AM. We probably could have kept sleeping but we knew if we did we miss a beautiful day in Geneva, so we got up. I went for a run along the lake while Jenn got ready for the day.
We left the Kempinski a little after 11:30 AM and went straight to Starbucks. There we purchased our first of two mugs on the trip and had a hot chocolate and a cappuccino. Both were delightful and our time in Starbucks helped orient us for the rest of the day.
From Starbucks we made our way through town, stopping in a couple of shops, taking pictures along the majestic lake and enjoying the beautiful scenery. It's hard to beat Switzerland when it comes to pure beauty. We also completely lucked out because the weather today was something out of a picture book. We walked along various roads and just couldn't stop pinching ourselves with how beautiful everything was.
A little after 1 PM we stumbled upon a restaurant called Steak. It's a cool little restaurant with amazing decor and even better food. I had a beer with the steak frites and Jenn had a glass of white wine and fish and chips. Everything was perfect. It was really amazing food and a place I'd go back to in a heartbeat.
After lunch, we walked around the lake, enjoyed some time in a couple of the parks and just continued to enjoy the beautiful afternoon. We got back to our room starting to feel the jet lag kicking in and watched Ali Wong's stand up routine before falling asleep and taking a much-needed nap.
From there it was back out for dinner this time we decided to mix it up and go for Indian food. You might be wondering why Indian food? When we were walking to our dinner last night there were a ton of Indian restaurants and so we did some research and found a highly reviewed one nearby. Neither of us was super hungry after polishing off our lunches so we split their Chicken Tikka Masala, rice and garlic naan. The tikka masala which is what we get at most Indian restaurants was very different from what we normally get but not in a bad way, it was delicious. It had incredible flavor, a good spice profile, and a very well cooked chicken. Jenn paired her dinner with a glass of white wine.
On our way back to our hotel we stopped off and got some gelato from a nearby shop and walked around the city enjoying a beautiful overcast evening. Although the jet lag seems to be catching up to us a bit, we had an incredible first full day in Geneva. And if today proved anything Switzerland is still easily one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
