Elle’s in Europe 2025 - Day 14 - Caviar Lunch & Fast Food Dinner

As we start our first full day in Stockholm, the sun is out, and the streets are full of people touring and going to work. We left our room a little after 9 AM and went downstairs to a jam-packed breakfast room. Elle was mesmerized by everyone walking by her, but was still able to eat a lot of pancakes, eggs, and bananas. We didn’t stay at breakfast long; we wanted to get out before Elle’s first nap on this perfect day in Stockholm. We made our way towards Gamla Stan. We would be back in this area later in the day, but it made for a perfect one-hour loop to walk around and take in the old town. We walked by several beautiful stores and cafes before walking back to our hotel for Elle’s first nap.

Elle slept for a little over an hour, and we quickly made our way back towards Gamla Stan to the Royal Palace. After finding a spot to leave our stroller, we bought tickets and toured the stunning grounds. Elle was enchanted by the chandeliers and statues. There were at least half a dozen rooms that she would squeal with delight as we entered. Jenn continued to love the tapestries, and we both took in the room that was based on Don Quixote. We didn’t spend more than an hour there before wrapping up our tour, grabbing our stroller and making our way back to Gamla Stan.

Jenn was in search of the picturesque street that you see in so many photos (that we missed this morning). It didn't take us long after looking it up and we made our way there. The streets leading up to this square were stunning. They were some of the cleanest and picturesque streets we’ve ever traveled through. When we made it to the famous square where the Nobel museum is, we took a ton of photos and then started making our way out of it in search of lunch.

On the way to lunch, Jenn walked into an antique store. She’s just starting to get the bug to find items on our travels for our homes. Special things that we can decorate the house with that remind us of our travels. After very little hesitation, she bought a small bowl, and we were back on our way to lunch. We stumbled upon Restaurant Tradition, a place that I was trying to get dinner reservations for this week, and were unsuccessful. Fortunately, we caught them with a free table for lunch, and we got a nice patio seat on this perfect afternoon. Jenn had a glass of Swedish white wine, and I had a Swedish Pilsner. For an appetizer, we had their asparagus with caviar, which was fantastic. Jenn went with their Swedish meatballs, and I had the potato dumplings. This was easily some of the best food we’ve had the entire trip.

Elle did amazing the entire lunch and was able to eat some of each of our dishes along with her food. We brought Elle back to our hotel, and she fell straight asleep. I went back out for a coffee while Elle and Jenn rested. It was such a beautiful afternoon that I found myself taking pictures every few seconds on my walk. I ended up going to Covendum, a co-working space that also has very highly rated coffee. It was the perfect place to take a few minutes to enjoy a cup of coffee before going back out and exploring more. I picked up a few snacks for Elle at the grocery store before heading back to meet them at the hotel.

Jenn and I were both full and a bit “fooded” out, so instead of going to another restaurant today, we opted for takeout. I ended up trying Max, their fast food burger chain in Sweden. I had a cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger was fine, and the fries were great. Jenn just wanted a hot chocolate, so we picked up our Stockholm mug at Starbucks and got her a hot chocolate. From there, we walked around the beautiful coastline, enjoying getting lost in the stunning architecture and views. We made our way back to our hotel at close to 9 PM to bathe Elle and get her to bed. What a great first full day in Stockholm!
