Canada Trip 2024 - Day 4 - Easy Baby, Easy Day
No one has ever said traveling with a 3-month-old is easy. And even though Elle is likely in the top 5% of “easy babies,” the pure exhaustion we both felt when we woke up this morning was real. Thankfully, we were able to take it slow this morning. We ordered room service for breakfast and took Elle’s 3-month photos in her very cute Ralph Lauren outfit. We didn’t leave our hotel room until nearly 11 AM when we made the 15-minute walk to The Citadelle of Québec.
Originally, we thought we should take the hour-long guided tour, but after doing some research, we realized it didn’t seem worth the hassle. So, instead, we walked the entire perimeter and then made our way to the nearby park. We took our time, stopping at a few benches before deciding that the weather was turning and that we should head back to our hotel just in case. We stopped at the boardwalk near our hotel and sat near the river to feed Elle. It was one of those times that having Elle forced us to stop and take in our surroundings. The threat of rain seemed to have passed and we could enjoy the beautiful afternoon.

We went to lunch near the hotel at Restaurant Mûrmur. The quiet little restaurant gave us plenty of room to let Elle relax in her stroller while we had lunch. Each meal here started with the creamy vegetable soup I ate for both of us as Jenn continued to avoid dairy. Jenn had the duck leg, which was fine, and I made the mistake of having their poutine, which was almost unedible. Thankfully, I had a beer to get through some of it before giving up. From lunch, we went to Starbucks, where Jenn got us both a Montreal and Quebec mug before returning to our room to enjoy a peaceful afternoon.
That evening, we ate dinner at one of the most popular restaurants in Quebec City, La Buche. We purchased a travel stroller for this trip (and for all future ones), so when we arrived at the restaurant, and they wouldn’t let us bring the stroller in, we had to spend five minutes outside trying to figure out how to take the bassinet off. Eventually, we got it to work and could sit down and enjoy our dinner. This isn’t the typical type of restaurant we’d go to. Instead of the tasting menu, you’re greeted with pork rines with syrup, and instead of white tablecloths, we had a picnic table. Thankfully, the food was still delicious. We started with the “pig wings,” beautifully seasoned and prepared ribs. I ordered a “medium” beer, which came out in a massive mug that was larger than my face. Jenn had the pork loin, and I had the meat pie. Once again, we would not ordinarily order these two things, but they were actually quite good. We decided to forgo our dessert and got a chocolate chip cookie at Starbucks before calling it a night. We took it far easier today, allowing ourselves to enjoy the extra day in Quebec without feeling like we had to do everything.
