3D Trip 2022 Day 10 - Change in Plans

It was only two months ago that we had to cancel our trip to Italy & Switzerland following my work trip when Jenn got COVID. The earliest sign that something was off for Jenn was a rash that spread from head to toe over a few days. Yesterday that same rash came back in a few small spots on her legs and unfortunately this morning it spread a bit more. She is still testing negative and we expect it’s just her either fighting it again or it still hanging around her body, but either way, we didn’t want to take any chances. We went on our separate bookings on Delta and found out that Delta would refund us both money if we changed our flight to New York to depart from Copenhagen instead of Dublin. So instead of wasting a day traveling back to Dublin to go home on Monday, we are now booked on flights to go home tomorrow direct from Copenhagen. All in all, from that perspective there was a silver lining.

Given the reoccurrence of said rash, we wanted to make sure Jenn took it easy today. We let her sleep until 10 AM and then went down for our first and only breakfast at our hotel. It was terrible but we were able to get enough sustenance to last us to dinner. After breakfast, Jenn went back to rest in our room, take a nap, and finish her book, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. To not bother her I went for a walk around Copenhagen and did some light shopping (should have purchased some items from Tiger of Sweden), grabbed a coffee at Delambo, and sat in the park waiting for Jenn to let me know when she woke up.

Jenn’s rash started to go away with her resting and she was feeling much better after her nap so we decided to make one quick outing for our last day in Copenhagen at the art museum Glyptoteket. We only spent an hour at the museum to give Jenn time to rest afterward but we really enjoyed the museum. They had a beautiful display of statues along with Danish & French art including some Van Gough and Monet. It was a lovely outing, especially on an overcast day. We even made a quick trip to the rooftop which had great views of the nearby amusement park Tivoli, the second oldest amusement park in the world.

After leaving the museum and making a brief hour nap break at our hotel, we were off to our last dinner in Copenhagen. We canceled our original reservation for today when Jenn’s rash started at Formel B, but found a last-minute reservation this afternoon at a Danish/Italian restaurant called Brace. We were the first to arrive at the restaurant for our 5:45 reservation and were given a brief tour of the kitchen, and an introduction to the chef, before sitting at our table. For the next two hours, we enjoyed an eight-course meal that included a few snacks, and the ability to choose from two different items for a couple of courses. Outside of dessert, we tried to get the opposite items to try everything they had to offer. The highlights of the meal were the deep-fried lobster, sourdough focaccia, shrimp linguine, and poached halibut. The meal ended with the best dessert we’ve had in Copenhagen, bee pollen, lemon thyme ice cream with buckwheat tuile. It was divine.

We left dinner a little before 8 PM and made the 15-minute walk back to our hotel where we packed up, and fell asleep early to an episode of Amazon’s A League of Their Own. Although we’re sad that the trip is coming to an end, we are grateful that we are able to get home tomorrow and are hoping more than anything that Jenn’s body heals quickly. It’s never fun to end a trip like this but I don’t think either of us would trade a moment of the last 10-days for anything in this world. We work so much, and so hard these days that having 10 mostly uninterrupted days to unplug and spend together made for easily some of the best days of the year if not my life.
