Ultimate Europe Trip 2016 Day 24: All Nice Things Come to An End
When I woke up this morning I'll admit I had a tough time coming to grips with the end of the trip. Being gone for nearly a month, I've just gotten accustomed to not having to work and take care of the stresses of day-to-day life. But like I did this morning, we will move past the tears for one more day, and enjoy our last full day in Nice.
We woke up as slowly as possible this morning and it wasn't until 9AM that we were awake enough to order room service. We have such a beautiful balcony that it would have been a shame not to use it for at least one breakfast. Jenn had waffles and I had eggs benedict. I realize as I'm writing that, that eggs benedict is my go-to breakfast similar to Jenn and her pasta dinners. It was an incredibly relaxing and enjoyable breakfast taking in the morning breeze overlooking the stunning French Riviera.
After breakfast we suited up in our bathing suits and got tickets for Hyatt's private beach across the street from the hotel. We got two loungers in the front row right in front of the water and plopped down from 10:30AM to almost 4PM. Throughout the day we had some intermittent cloud cover that gave us some refuge from what otherwise was a warm day.
At some point during our day of relaxing Jenn got a martini, a sex on the beach and I had a bloody mary. It was exactly what the doctor ordered for today. We couldn't have been more relaxed or enjoyed the beautiful day any more fully then we did. Whether it was watching a slideshow Jenn put together of our entire journey or just falling asleep under our umbrellas the entire day was perfect.
We came back to our room, laid around, watched the afternoon turn to evening, and then finally got ready for our last European dinner. We made the short walk to a small cafe called Le Bistro Dalpozzo. We started out with glasses of red wine. Jenn had a Merlot and I had a Rhône. Both were really good and complimented our meals nicely. We started our dinner of with a six escargot which were exquisite. I've loved escargot since my first cruise, but this is the first time I've got Jenn to try them. To my horror she loved them so I had to share.
For Jenn's entree she had duck with potatoes and I had a steak with a salad and fries. It was a very French meal and both were delightful. The food really hit the spot but by far the best part was the ambiance. Not only was the restaurant completely booked up (they were turning folks away) but they had a live musician who was alternating between playing the saxophone and singing. It made the entire evening really special.
We finished the night off with three scoops of ice cream, one scoop of coffee, chocolate, and vanilla. We sat listening to the music, people watching, and enjoying our last night in paradise. From there we walked back to our hotel, packed our bags, and turned in for the night.
Tonight marks the last day of the Ultimate Europe Trip. But because there are a few hours remaining I'm not ready to say goodbye just yet. So until I've come down off this high, I bid you adieu.
