Movie Review: The Equalizer
Jenn and I have always been a big fan of Denzel Washington movies. He is one of the most enjoyable actors to watch on screen. I remember seeing the first trailer for The Equalizer and thinking wow Denzel is Batman. I would say the first 30 minutes of The Equalizer were its peak. I remember looking over at Jenn and saying that the movie had the potential to be incredible.
Movie Review: What If
The first movie Jenn and I rented in 2015 was What If which was actually originally released in 2013 but didn't hit theaters until summer of 2014. It stars Daniel Radcliffe (of Harry Potter fame) in a romantic comedy that after watching the trailer instantly reminded me of one of my favorite romantic comedies, 500 Days of Summer.
Another Win for Joel at the 2015 Golden Globes
There are three big award shows in the Szerlip household. There are the Emmy's, Oscars, and The Golden Globes. Granted I think the Emmy's and the Oscar's are great, there is something beautiful about combining TV and Movies into one night. For each of these three award shows Jenn and I print out a ballot, and cast out votes for who we think will win.
TV Review: The Leftovers Season 1
"I'll see you in another life brotha." Remember the good old days of Lost? Remember when we wondered who the Others were? And why did they ever have to go back to the island? Well from one of the creators of Lost comes the new HBO series The Leftovers. One of the few remaining TV series that I wanted to check out, we recently finished watching the ten episode first season, and boy was it dark and depressing.
Serial Podcast - You Need to Listen To This
As I've posted several times on the blog I love to listen to both podcast and audiobooks. A couple of months back my DarkCast compatriot Jonathan recommended a podcast called Serial. It's put on by the same people that do This American Life. It's a twelve episode podcast series hosted by Sarah Koenig who looks into the real-life 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee who was in High School. A couple of months after her murder, her ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed was convicted of her murder with only one of his friends (Jay) testimony as evidence.
TV Review: Newsroom Season 3
Jenn and I have never been shy about our love for Aaron Sorkin's Newsroom on HBO. Over the last couple of years when we've sat down and talked about our favorite TV shows, Newsroom has been a staple. When the show was renewed for its third season earlier this year, HBO also announced that it would be the shows last. Newsroom started with one of the most hooking scenes I've ever seen a show start with. Will McAvoy (played by Jeff Daniels) goes off on a five minute monologue about why America isn't the greatest country in the world.
