My Most Anticipated Movies of Summer 2016
I knew it was getting close to time to write out my most anticipated movies of Summer 2016. But I kept putting it off as I waited for more movies to be announced and for the summer movie schedule to be firmed up. At this point though my most anticipated movie is coming out this week so there's no time like the present to put out my most anticipated movies for Summer 2016.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (March 25, 2016)
I really can't start this list with any other movie then probably my most anticipated movie of the first half of 2016, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. These are my two favorite super heroes thrown into the same movie. A feet that I thought would never happen. Do I think it will be a good movie, no. But I did purchase tickets for the opening weekend 2 months in advance, so I'm still excited.
The Boss (April 8, 2016)
Outside of Bridesmaids (which is still an incredible movie) I'm not sure I've loved much that Melissa McCarthy has done. But something about the trailer for The Boss tells me that although this might not be a great movie to see in theaters, picking it up on a Friday night might be perfect.
Captain America: Civil War (May 6, 2016)
This is another movie that I cannot wait to see and already have tickets for well in advance. Although none of the latest Marvel movies (Ant-Man or Avengers 2) have really hit the mark, I'm still excited to see the beginning of the Civil War story-line. It will be interesting and exciting to see how Marvel treats its characters and captures this inner conflict.
Money Monsters (May 13, 2016)
When making this list this was the only movie that I found by scouring the release calendar. After watching this trailer, this is easily one of my most anticipated movies of the year. George Clooney and Julia Roberts in a modern day thriller sounds incredible. Sign me up.
Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (May 20, 2016)
Something tells me like Ted 2, this is going to be a terrible movie. But like Ted, the original Neighbors is a fantastic. If you haven't seen it I'd highly recommend it. From what we've seen so far it looks like Neighbors 2 is trying to recapture the magic of the first, but making a successful sequel to a comedy is not
X-Men: Apocalypse (May 27, 2016)
The first trailer (which was released recently) has me extremely conflicted. I absolutely loved X-Men: Days of Future Past and much of the X-Men series. But something about the recent trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse has me thinking this might either be the best movie of the summer or one of the worst. It has a great cast
Finding Dory (June 17, 2016)
One of my favorite Pixar movies of all time (would have to sit down to actually figure out what my favorite is) is Finding Nemo. It's a movie that even in 2016, Jenn and I quite often quote. Even more so then Neighbors 2, the idea of a follow-up to Finding Nemo is hard to imagine doing anything but failing miserably. But we shall see I have faith in Pixar.
Independence Day: Resurgence (June 24, 2016)
I genuinely went back and forth on whether or not I wanted to add this movie to my list. I love the original. The Presidents speech to this day is one of the best speeches of all time. This movie doesn't even look good from the trailers. But who knows maybe it will be like Jurassic World and be great.
The Secret Life of Pets (July 8, 2016)
I adore the trailer for this movie. I also adored the trailer for Minions last year. I do think though this has the potential to be incredible. I could absolutely see Jenn and I loving this movie.
Star Trek Beyond (July 22, 2016)
I really enjoyed the first two J.J. Abrams directors Star Trek movies. But after seeing them in theaters I never went back and rewatched them. And yet I'm still really pumped to see what the third movie in the series does. After falling in love with Star Wars: The Force Awakens I'm excited to jump back into the Trek realm.
Jason Bourne (July 29, 2016)
I cannot believe we are getting another Bourne movie with Matt Damon back in the lead role. I remember seeing the third Bourne movie with a sold out audience at Big Newport that concluded with an audience cheering and giving a standing ovation. It was one of the most electric movie experiences I've ever had and I can't wait to go and see another one.
Suicide Squad (August 5, 2016)
Unlike a lot of the movies on my list this year, Suicide Squad is one that I think is going to surprise people with how good it is. I love the cast. I love the idea of the movie. I cannot wait to see if it all comes together in a great movie.
