TV Review: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 2
Last year when we put our house up for sale the first time I remember spending a couple of weekends binging through the very light-hearted Netflix series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I'm not sure if it was the time in which we watched it or if the show was as funny as we remember it, but we loved the first season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Now a year later and in a much better spot then we were a year ago, we were ready for the second season of the Netflix comedy darling, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Sadly in almost every single way the second season is worse then the first. In short it seems like Tina Fey and the rest of the shows writing staff decided to double down on the insanity of the first season making what was already a rather odd comedy get even more peculiar. The show somehow masterfully toed the line between hilarity and insanity in its first season and sadly wasn't able to do the same in its second season.
Where did it all go wrong? I'm not even sure where to start. The characters have become characters of themselves. Kimmy is hard to watch, she makes terrible decisions in every episode, and tends to just do things for a punch line. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt never lets you care enough for any of its characters because they all do baffling things that make no sense in the real world or even the world of the show.
This is one of those shows that we absolutely struggled to get through. We often thought about giving up and only made it through the show by binging the last couple of episodes just to get through them. I know the show has been renewed by Netflix for a third season but I'm not sure Jenn and I are going to partake.
