Casa de Szerlip: Let the Games Begin - Ping Pong Has Arrived
Jenn and I love ping pong. When we lived at The Colony we would walk over to the Marriott and play ping pong near their pool. Probably not the classiest thing to do, but we enjoyed it. It always made us feel like we were on vacation. When we started looking at houses one of the "nice-to-haves" for me was an area for a ping pong table. And of course if you've been following the "Casa de Szerlip" series you know that we have a really nice size atrium at our new house.
A couple of weeks back we had the built-in cabinets removed from our atrium which gave us the entire outdoor space to work with. Which meant it was time to order a ping pong table. I did a ton of research and ended up settling on the Joola 150. From the reviews and specs it was a very nice table that's easy to store away.
The table was delivered the day after we had all the cabinets removed which gave us plenty of space to build it. Putting it together wasn't overly difficult although we hit a snap where we didn't have the right wrench to tighten the bolts. After Jenn made a quick trip to Ace Hardware we finished putting it together. Probably took us a half hour (minus the Ace Hardware detour) to put it together. What I really love about the table is the dark blue finish. It looks really nice.
So far we've probably played a dozen times in the last three weeks and its been fantastic. Our newest routine is to play right after dinner and then go on a walk around the neighborhood afterwards. While Jenn cleans the dishes I take the table out of its storage position and get us setup for play. The plan in the future is to put something in the atrium to keep the lifetime score for our matches. We're pretty evenly matched so it will be interesting to see if we get better overtime. For now I'm going to stop writing and go play some ping pong.
