5 Tech Items I Want in 2015

I absolutely love technology. It excites me. I'm fascinated by it. I want more of it. A lot more of it. Unfortunately being an early adopter is expensive. And often times the newest latest best isn't all its cracked up to be. However here are 5 products that no matter where I'm living, or what I'm doing, are five products I could see in our lives in 2015.

1. Virtual Reality Headset

You may have heard that about a year ago Facebook purchased a company called Oculus who was and is developing a virtual reality headset. Well Oculus/Facebook aren't alone. We know that Sony will be coming out with their own VR headset in early 2016, and HTC/Valve announced the HTC Vive will be coming out in late 2015. I'd love a VR headset by the end of the year. The ideas of being fully immersed into a video game sounds incredible and I for one cannot wait for this tech to take off. Keep an eye out this might be a big deal coming 2016/2017.

2. Nest Protect

A little while back I wrote about our Nest Thermostat which is something I've been wanting since it was first announced. You can even read about me drooling over the device on the 5 tech items I wanted in 2014. I want to continue building out my Nest home with the Nest Protect a Fire/Carbon Monoxide detector that works in conjunction with your thermostat and iPhone. And just like the Nest it will look great in the house as well.

3. 60-65" 4K TV

Ideally I'd like to upgrade our living room TV to a 4K 60-65" LED TV. But I might choose to go with just a normal HD display for $500-1000 cheaper. The future will be 4K (if not 6, 8 or 10K) resolution which is just referring to the number of pixels a TV produces. Current HD displays produce 1920 x 1080 pixels (which is why you hear it referred to as 1080p). 4K televisions display 3840 x 2160 pixels.

However there isn't a ton of content available in 4K. All cable channels are displayed in 1080p right now (at best). Only Netflix and YouTube are currently streaming 4K content and even that is rare. So maybe I'll save the $1K and stick with a 1080P TV. Either way we "need" a new TV and the more pixels I can get the better.

4. Sonos Speakers (More of them)

I mentioned previously how much we currently love our Sonos Play 1 speaker that Jenn got from my parents for Christmas. Well over 2015 I'd love to purchase at least 1 if not 2 more of the Sonos Play 1's and eventually after we get the new TV upgrade to a Sonos Playbar.

5. Apple Watch

Is it bad to just say I really really want an Apple Watch and I'm not 100% sure why. I loved my Pebble that I got two years ago but after a while I just stopped wearing it. Not sure why but I did. But I think with Apple, you know you're going to get a level of perfection that you just don't get anywhere else. I for one will be pre-ordering my Apple Watch Sport on April 11th.
