My Most Anticipated Movies of Summer 2015
These are some of my favorite posts to write. I absolutely love going to the movies, and there is something special about the summer movie season. When I look back on my exhaustive list of summer 2014 movies last year I realize that the majority of those movies weren't all that great. Here's to hoping that this year has better results. So without further ado here is my list of movies I'm looking forward to in 2015.
Get Hard (March 27, 2015)
Putting a Kevin Hart / Will Ferrell movie on my list is risky business. More times then not their movies are duds. But every time I've watched this trailer (which is a lot) I laugh. Here's to hoping that this starts the year off right.
While We're Young (March 27, 2015)
I love movies that have a bit more edge/artsy flare. While We're Young looks to be a movie that has both. I like seeing Ben Stiller do more of these roles, he's a really good actor and has more depth then Night at the Museum and Meet the Parents. Super excited for this one.
Slow West (April 16, 2015)
This is another movie that I literally just heard about. It's another movie that got a ton of buzz at Sundance and looks incredible. It takes place in the wild west and looks to have a weird tone to it. I'm 100% on board for this and am somehow going to have to convince Jenn to come watch it with me.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 1, 2015)
How are we all still so excited by all these comic book movies. Can you believe the original Iron Man movie came out in 2008 and since then there have been nearly a dozen movies in this new age Marvel universe. I never thought the original Avengers movie was going to work and yet somehow it was brilliant. I'm still skeptical on Age of Ultron but I sure hope its good.
Tomorrowland (May 22, 2015)
I've always loved Tomorrowland at Disneyland and to think there is an actual story around it is pretty exciting. I love thinking about what the world of tomorrow can be like and this movie seems chalk full of future worlds and technology. This should be a really good movie.
Aloha (May 29, 2015)
I've admitted it before, but I'm an absolute sucker for a good romantic comedy. Aloha has a great cast and a trailer that makes me think its going to be a pretty good movie. Romantic Comedies have a tendency to be bad but I'll stay slightly optimistic for this one.
Spy (June 5, 2015)
I'm pretty sure this movie is going to be really bad. I mean bad. But that's ok the trailer has made me laugh a couple of times and anytime Melissa McCarthy is in a movie you're bound to get some laughs. How great would it be if this turned out to be great?
Jurassic World (June 12, 2015)
Talk about a movie I'm super nervous about. I'm not sure how Jurassic World is going to turn out. The original movie was quite the spectacle when it came out. However having seen the first few trailers for Jurassic World (and having not so fond memory of Jurassic Park II & III) I'll say I'm only somewhat optimistic this movie will be able to capture the glory of the first film.
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (June 12, 2015)
This was a movie I literally just heard about. There's no trailer for it. Its a Sundance winner for best drama and at least conceptually it sounds like my kind of movie. I think you have to watch the director discuss the movie to really appreciate what the movie is trying to do.
Inside Out (June 19, 2015)
The only movie I have on the list that I didn't know about until researching this post was Pixar's, Inside Out. In anticipation of this post I looked at the movie release schedule through August and Inside Out stood out and after watching the trailer I'm pretty sure this is one of my most anticipated movies of the summer.
Ted 2 (June 19, 2015)
t's sort of hard to believe how funny the original Ted was. Granted I've only seen the movie once, but I really enjoyed it. Having watched this trailer for Ted 2 a couple of times this might be one of the rare sequels that lives up to its original.
Terminator: Genisys (July 1, 2015)
I'll be perfectly honest. I think Terminator: Genisys is going to be a horrible movie. I mean nothing about the trailer even looks good. There are two things going for it though. First, Arnold is back so its bound to be at least slightly better then Terminator Salvation from 2009. And secondly Khaleesi is in it, so maybe there will be dragons? This is probably going to be a bad movie.
Minions (July 1, 2015)
OK two in a row. Movies that I think will probably not be very good. Minions the third movie in the Despicable Me franchise, however the first that is focusing solely on the cute yellow minions. The trailers are great, but I have a sneaky suspicion that they've shown us their best stuff already.
Trainwreck (July 17, 2015)
Judd Apatow has had some pretty funny movies and at least from the trailer, Trainwreck looks exceptionally funny. Amy Schumer basically playing herself in this movie actually could make for a comedy as funny as Bridesmaids.
Southpaw (July 31, 2015)
One of these days I'm going to write up a post on my favorite movies of all time. In the running for #1 would be Rocky (1 or 2). I love boxing movies. I've watched each of the Rocky movies at least a 100 times (except for Rocky V which is garbage). I even love Cinderella Man. So when I saw the trailer for Southpaw I immediately texted Jake and said we're seeing this movie. This is by far my most anticipated movie of the summer.
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (August 14, 2015)
It's yet another Guy Ritchie film that looks great on the trailer but who knows how it's going to turn out. The vibe I get from The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is that of the latest Bond films except with two characters who are playing Bond (one from the US the other Russia). Could be a great end of summer popcorn action movie though.
