Book Review: The Nightingale
I'm not even sure where to begin. I've never read a novel by Kristin Hannah. She's an author quite frankly that up until the release of The Nightingale I had never heard of before. But having heard nothing but praise for her latest novel I felt as though I owed it to myself to get out of my normal genre's and this historical fiction set during World War II.
Book Review: Between the World and Me
What an incredible novel. I came to Between the World and Me late. I hadn't heard about it. I'm not sure how I had missed it for most of 2015 but as the year started to come to a close and people who I admire began to sing its praises, calling it one of the best books of 2015. I immediately purchased it and put it on my list to read. I'm so glad I did.
Book Review: We Should All Be Feminist
A few days before Christmas I was listening to the BookRiot podcast and they were talking about there favorite books of the year. A book came up called We Should All Be Feminist by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I had never heard of it but knew within a few seconds it's a book that Jenn had to have. I had it overnighted via Amazon and was fortunate enough to get two copies (shipping error) so we both ended up reading it. What transpired was fifty pages of pure brilliance. I've known two feminist in my life. Jenn and her Mom.
Setting a Reading Plan for 2016 - Books #1-5
Last year I implemented a system in which I would set a plan for the next five books that I would read. This limited the amount of second guessing I would do before starting a book. Instead I would set out the next five books and while reading I would keep a notepad on my phone of books I wanted to read next. Sometimes it would be the next book in a series or just a book I had heard something about. My biggest resource continues to be Goodreads which keeps track of the books I've read, want to read, and own and need to read. I loved my setup last year so will continue it again in 2016 where I will try and read 28 books.
2015 Reading Challenge: Completed My Goal of Reading 27 Books
I'm extremely proud to say that this is the fourth straight year that I've set a reading goal on Goodreads.com and hit my goal. I started out in 2012 with a goal of 20, in 2013 I had a goal of 25, 2014 of 26, and this year I had the goal of reading 27 books. No easy feat.
Book Review: The Girl in the Spider's Web
I really enjoyed the Millennium trilogy (you can read reviews of two of the trilogy The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire). Although I thought at times it got a little long in the tooth and the plausibility started to run out of control they were interesting mysteries. After the passing of Stiegg Larson and hearing that David Lagercrantz would pick up where Stieg left off and write the fourth book in the "trilogy" I have to say I was apprehensive. For those that might worries that David Lagercrantz would change the tone or direction of the series I can say that you have nothing to worry about. There is very little in The Girl in the Spider's Web that distinguishes itself as written by anyone but Stieg Larson.
