Book Review: A Man Called Ove

I've read some truly incredible novels in 2016, but one that now holds a special place in my heart is A Man Called Ove. As the title suggests the book is about a man named Ove who is growing older and dealing with the latter parts of his life. Without giving anything away, Ove is a man who's principled. He believes certain things very strongly and lives within his own ideals.

Book Review: Modern Romance

I enjoyed Aziz Ansari in Parks and Recreation but I really fell in love with Aziz as an actor and a comedic genius when I watched his Netflix show, Master of None. It was within days of finishing the first season of Master of None that I broke down and purchased his novel Modern Romance. I didn't even read the description of the book before buying.

Book Review: The Nightingale

I'm not even sure where to begin. I've never read a novel by Kristin Hannah. She's an author quite frankly that up until the release of The Nightingale I had never heard of before. But having heard nothing but praise for her latest novel I felt as though I owed it to myself to get out of my normal genre's and this historical fiction set during World War II.

Book Review: Between the World and Me

What an incredible novel. I came to Between the World and Me late. I hadn't heard about it. I'm not sure how I had missed it for most of 2015 but as the year started to come to a close and people who I admire began to sing its praises, calling it one of the best books of 2015. I immediately purchased it and put it on my list to read. I'm so glad I did.

Book Review: We Should All Be Feminist

A few days before Christmas I was listening to the BookRiot podcast and they were talking about there favorite books of the year. A book came up called We Should All Be Feminist by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I had never heard of it but knew within a few seconds it's a book that Jenn had to have. I had it overnighted via Amazon and was fortunate enough to get two copies (shipping error) so we both ended up reading it. What transpired was fifty pages of pure brilliance. I've known two feminist in my life. Jenn and her Mom.

Setting a Reading Plan for 2016 - Books #1-5

Last year I implemented a system in which I would set a plan for the next five books that I would read. This limited the amount of second guessing I would do before starting a book. Instead I would set out the next five books and while reading I would keep a notepad on my phone of books I wanted to read next. Sometimes it would be the next book in a series or just a book I had heard something about. My biggest resource continues to be Goodreads which keeps track of the books I've read, want to read, and own and need to read. I loved my setup last year so will continue it again in 2016 where I will try and read 28 books.
