Book Review: The Girl in the Spider's Web

I really enjoyed the Millennium trilogy (you can read reviews of two of the trilogy The Girl With the Dragon TattooThe Girl Who Played With Fire). Although I thought at times it got a little long in the tooth and the plausibility started to run out of control they were interesting mysteries. After the passing of Stiegg Larson and hearing that David Lagercrantz would pick up where Stieg left off and write the fourth book in the "trilogy" I have to say I was apprehensive. For those that might worries that David Lagercrantz would change the tone or direction of the series I can say that you have nothing to worry about. There is very little in The Girl in the Spider's Web that distinguishes itself as written by anyone but Stieg Larson.

Book Review: Half a King

I purchased Half a King right around when it was released and receiving mostly glowing reviews. This would be and was my first foray into a Joe Abercrombie novel after hearing about how great of a fantasy author he is. I have to say that Half a King draws you in right away. Yarvi, the novels main character is not your typical fantasy character. He's born with only one full working arm/hand. This disability absolutely defines Yarvi as a prince, a son, and a person.

Book Review: Let's Explore Diabetes With Owls

It's not very often that I finish a book and realize that I'm not exactly sure what I read. Don't get me wrong. It's not that I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I first picked up a David Sedaris book. But after finish Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls I feel as though I got just a small glimpse into his rambling mind. Let's Explore Diabetes With Owls is a novel that has nothing to do with anything. It's a random assortment with almost no cohesion of essays that David Sedaris has written over the years.

Book Review: The Silkworm

It's been over two years since I read Robert Galbraith (better known as J.K. Rowling) first foray into a mystery with The Cuckoo's Calling. It was a good solid mystery that had some interesting characters but nothing that was so memorable that I was dying to get back in. I did purchase the second installment (The Silkworm) when it came out but haven't gotten around to reading it until now. My feelings on the book are extremely similar to what they were for The Cuckoo's Calling.

Book Review: Eleanor & Park

The whole young adult genre is a wasteland that I don't usually dip my toe into. But when a book like Eleanor & Park comes along that I've heard nothing but adoration and praise I had to jump in. I'm a big sucker for a good "coming of age" story which is what I thought I was getting myself into. Eleanor & Park is that but its actually a lot deeper then I would have expected.
