2016 Reading Challenge: Books 16-20
As I write this post I'm currently a couple of books ahead of schedule to reach my goal of reading 28 books in 2016. The one major caveat to that is that I'm really not sure if I will get much reading done on the #UltimateEuropeTrip2016 which is over three weeks long, so I'm trying to build in a little cushion. Another big help to the reading goal is the addition of GamersRead to my repertoire which is the new video game book club I started with a couple of folks from Darkstation. With those two things in mind I'm well on my way to reach my 2016 goal.
#16: End of Watch by Stephen King
I'm really forward to the third and final installment in the Bill Hodges trilogy from Stephen King. This is one of the most unlikely trilogies I think I've ever read. After reading Mr. Mercedes you would have probably never guessed that a year later Stephen King would come out with Finder's Keepers, and now End of Watch. Hopefully this trilogy ends as well as it started.
#17: A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
I've heard amazing things about V.E. Schwab and several of her past novels. But starting a new series can be daunting if there are already a number of books in. So I thought A Darker Shade of Magic would give me the opportunity to jump in from the beginning.
#18: Golden Son by Pierce Brown
I loved the first novel in the Red Rising trilogy, Red Rising. It was such an excellent introduction into this world and its characters. I thought the end of the book went a little off the rails but I'm still very excited to get back into the series
#19: Ego is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday
It's been a while since I read a non-fiction novel. The last dozen or so novels have all been fiction so I'm excited to read one of the most popular non-fiction novels of the year.
#20: The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin
One of the podcasts I listen to on a regular basis, Sword and Laser, recently had The Fifth Season as a book on their book club. Most of the time I don't partake in their picks but this one got so much love from both of the hosts and other listeners that I told myself I had to give it a go. I'm really interested to see how this fantasy novel fairs from a relatively unknown author.
