Grand Adventure 2017 Day 16: Relaxation Engaged

I'm still in utter shock with how amazing yesterday was. We both knew that Angkor Wat was going to be a memorable experience but it far exceeded our expectations. What also far exceeded our expectations was how exhausted we were going to be from it. Not only did we wake up at 4 AM yesterday but we also spent nearly 12-hours in 90-degree heat with nearly 100% humidity. We woke up this morning beat up and not ready to do much of anything.

We spent most of this morning laying around, enjoying our beautiful room here at the Park Hyatt and not doing a whole lot. I forced myself to go to the gym at 9 AM and when I got there-there wasn't a soul around. It was sort of great. I got a good run in and got back to the room at 10 AM and Jenn and I tried to figure out what to do with our last day in Cambodia.

The first item of business was to find coffee. The Park Hyatt had terrible coffee and I had spotted a coffee shop a couple blocks from us the day prior. A little after 10 AM we walked to Noir Coffee. We went up to the counter and ordered and found out it was their 3-year anniversary and were doing buy a drink get one free promotion. I thought great, so I got a cappuccino and Jenn got a hot chocolate and assumed the hot chocolate would be free. I paid less than $2 and received 4-drinks, two hot chocolates, and two cappuccinos. I needed caffeine so it worked out. We sat in the coffee shop for at least an hour enjoying their cool vibe and air conditioning.

Afterwards, we walked around the general area of Siem Reap, did some window shopping, avoided getting run over by motorbikes the best we could and tried not to melt. I think we only lasted maybe 30-45 minutes before calling our shopping expedition short for cooler temperatures in the hotel.

We went for lunch back at the hotel in their smaller of two restaurants. Jenn had the spaghetti carbonara which was really great. Sort of an odd choice in Cambodia but it looked and tasted delicious. I went with the beef fried rice with an Angkor beer (the Cambodian beer) which was incredible. I did, unfortunately, make the mistake of being a little heavy handed with the chili peppers and put a little too much in the dish making me work up a pretty good sweat.

After lunch, we went back to our room, checked in to our flight tomorrow, and got ready to go down to the pool. The Park Hyatt is a small boutique hotel and they have a small but stunning pool. We got two lounge chairs in the shade (thank goodness) and relaxed for the next couple of hours. The staff brought us over waters and this delightful little-frozen melon treats that I loved. I listened to my book and Jenn listened to music and enjoyed the beautiful sweltering heat of Cambodia.

We stayed down at the pool for a couple of hours before heading back to our room. Originally we had a food tour scheduled for today but we decided to cancel it this morning given how exhausted we were and how over the food we both were. The tour company we went through was nice enough to allow us to cancel last minute which was a relief to both Jenn and I.

Both Jenn and I are a little over food at this point in the trip. Jenn was so over food that she decided to just have a light bowl of white rice for dinner and I had a club sandwich. We couldn't pass up their happy hour specials though so Jenn got a bellini and I had a New York Sour. Part of it is exhaustion from yesterday and part of it is the trip starting to catch up to us. We decided to keep today fun and relaxing and we accomplished both. After dinner, we came up to our room, packed our bags and watched a couple episodes of Amazon's Red Oaks (finishing the series) before falling asleep and looking forward to flying to the beaches of Phuket tomorrow.
