Extraordinary Adventure 2018 Day 6: Sliding into Marrakech

We've reached the first travel day of our nearly three-week-long journey. This morning we were up only a few hours after we arrived back to our hotel last night to go to Linate airport to fly to Marrakech, Morocco. We left our hotel a little before 6 AM and made the fifteen-minute drive via a taxi to the airport.

After dropping off our bags we made our way to the Airport lounge where I had a cappuccino and we both waited for our first of two flights for the day. Two hours later we landed in Madrid where we grabbed a quick bite at McDonald's (Big Mac for me and fries for Jenn) and walked the 25-minute walk to our next terminal to get us to Marrakech.

After two hours, we landed in the beautiful, warm, and flatlands of Marrakech. Right off the plane, we had a gentleman waiting for us at the terminal to "fast track" us through customs and into baggage claim where we grabbed our bags and met another gentleman from the Four Seasons who took us to our hotel. When we arrived at our hotel after a short fifteen-minute ride we were told that our room had been upgraded and instead of a normal hotel room we'd be staying in a two-bedroom pool villa. We were absolutely stunned. We knew we got a free upgrade when we booked it but didn't realize that it would be to a private pool villa.

A half-hour later our room was ready and we were off on a golf cart to take us to our room. To say this room is stunning wouldn't do it justice. First just from a size perspective it's at minimum twice the size of our apartment. It has a beautiful living/dining room great room with a giant patio, nice private pool, and a stunning bedroom. We just walked around the apartment for at least twenty minutes not knowing how we were so fortunate to be able to get such a nice room.

By the time we were done picking our jaws up off the ground we got hungry and went up to one of the hotel's restaurants for dinner. Jenn got a hamburger and I had the lamb couscous. It was delicious. Jenn's burger was nicely cooked and the fries were phenomenal. My couscous was giant, and although I couldn't finish it, it was a really nice introductory meal to Marrakech.

After dinner, we came back to our room and enjoyed a nice quiet evening on our patio/pool area. I was so relaxed that I fell asleep for a few minutes before realizing I had fallen asleep mid-sentence. What can I say I only had a couple of hours of sleep. At 8 PM we went down to the clay tennis courts here at the Four Seasons and rented a court with racquets and balls. For the next hour Jenn and I just hit, something we haven't done together in a long time (years). It was such a beautiful night and to slide around a perfectly kept clay court was just a dream come true. And so ended our first day here in Marrakech. Tomorrow the touring starts, but for today we will go to bed excited for the adventures that await.
