Ranking Political Satirists on this Election
I originally wrote this post before the election. Now with the results known this post has quite a bit less relevance then I thought it would. I still believe that although we as a country lost a big battle this November, I do want to highlight some of the bright spots of this political season. These were the voices of reason that Jenn and I clung to up until days before the election.
A Little Joy in a Rough Couple of Weeks
I cannot believe I even get to write this post. I didn't think I would ever see the likes of Stephen Colbert (playing Stephen Colbert) or Jon Stewart on the airwaves again. Yes, Stephen Colbert took over for Letterman, but his character formed on The Daily Show and made into its own show on The Colbert Report has been retired since December 2014. That was until last night, when Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart teamed up again on the first night of the Republican National Convention (RNC).
Discrimination Is Alive and Well in 2014
In the past few weeks both Jon Stewart and John Oliver have done incredible segments on their shows about how discrimination is alive and well in 2014. Jon Stewart used his first episode back on The Daily Show after a two week break to talk about the Ferguson shooting and the fact that racism is still alive and well in the US today. And John Oliver used his show, Last Week Tonight to bring up the embarrassing fact that in 2014 we are still paying women less then men.
A Little Late, But #McConnelling is Still Hilarious
I've mentioned a few times how big fans Jenn and I are off The Daily Show. Its a staple in the Szerlip household and we still have not stopped laughing from the #McConnelling craze of a month ago. For some reason we started talking about it on a walk a few nights back and I just cannot stop watching these videos. So a little context. Republican Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky put together a new ad for his senate race.
One of The Best John Oliver Moments on The Daily Show
I cannot believe this is the first Daily Show video I am posting. For the last year or two Jenn and I religiously watch The Daily Show. It has become our go to dinner show. How can you go wrong, political satire, comedy, and a great interview.
