As of right now I'm a little behind on my quest to read 27 books this year. I've now completed the first ten novels of that challenge (books 1-5, and books 6-10). My last five picks weren't the best. So I'm hoping to turn things around and get some better books added to the library this go around. Out of the first ten novels only one of them has truly resonated with me (The Universe Versus Alex Woods) otherwise they've all been middle of the road.
Here are the next five books I'm going to read:
#11: The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
This book has been compared heavily to Gone Girl which I really enjoyed. I recently finished another thriller, The Son, that I found extremely disappointing. So I'm hoping this short summer read is an enjoyable one.
#12: The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North
Have I mentioned how much I love time travel novels? I've read a lot from Outlander, to Timebound (not a good book), to Replay (a very good book), to one of my favorite books of all time 11-22-63. So when I somehow stumbled upon The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August I knew I had to give it a go.
#13: Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography
I was going to read The Grace of Kings. I tried to read The Grace of Kings. But that didn't work out at all. So I decided to make a good change and with a biography of one of my favorite actors, Neal Patrick Harris.
#14: I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes
I've owned this book for a while. Its yet another thriller that got great reviews that I haven't got around to reading. So to force myself to read it I am officially putting it on my reading challenge list.
#15: Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
Out of this block of five books I think I'm most excited for Station Eleven. Just seems so different then anything I've read all year. I mentioned one of my favorite genres earlier was time travel, my other favorite is post apocalyptic. So this should be a good one.
