I don't remember when my Apple addiction began. I just know in my early teens having a fascination with Apple as a company. I remember watching Steve Jobs give these electric press conferences and thinking wow this is a company that gets it. My love for the company grew exponentially with the introduction of the iPhone which I purchased right after release and then upgraded to the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and then iPhone 5.
Earlier this week Apple announced the iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus at what was in my opinion the best Apple Event in the Tim Cook era. There was a passion, a focus, and a love for great products that just hasn't been as apparent since Steve Jobs was heading these conferences. Going in we had a pretty good idea of what Apple was going to show off; a new iPhone and the long rumored watch. The highlight was absolutely the Apple Watch which is set to release in 2015 and looks incredible. As an owner of the Pebble, I like the idea of a smart watch, and an Apple Watch is going to take the category to a whole new level. It's absolutely a day one purchase. I would expect a post on this very blog in 6-9 months when it releases with my first impressions.
After the conference I had one question left that needed decided now; should I buy the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. I followed much of the internet and printed out the different sizes and after a ton of deliberation decided to go big and go with the iPhone 6 Plus. This meant it was time to wake up at 12:01 on Friday 09/12 and brave the internet to try and get the iPhone 6 Plus.
I woke up at 11:55pm, got my computer, phone, and credit card ready and began eagerly refreshing Apple's Store from 12:01 until a little after 1 AM. Apple could not keep their store up and I wasn't the only one having the issue. The Verge has a great write-up of one of their editors accounts of the whole pre-ordering experience. Luckily with the help of Twitter I found out that the iPhone Apple Store app was working and after a half dozen tries I was able to get a White iPhone 6 Plus with 64gb of storage. It was a long hour of frantically refreshing the Apple Store on multiple browsers (Safari, Chrome, and Firefox) and on the iPhone just to have the chance of getting the phone on release day 9/19.
As of right now my new phone will be arriving on 9/19 which is going to be quite the day. Not only is it iPhone 6 Plus day but its also Jenn and my 5 Year Wedding Anniversary. Can you believe it? It's going to be a great day.
