Some of My Favorite Podcasts of 2014

Working in a cubicle everyday I've got a lot of time to listen to podcasts. It's something I've been doing for a long time and love it. My lineup of podcasts I listen to has changed over the years so here are some of my favorite podcasts that I listen to on a weekly basis.

DarkCast - Video Game Podcast

First up is the DarkCast. How could I not start with my own podcast. Not only have we produced 131 episodes of the show but we've also done over 60 developer interviews at the time of this post. All credit goes to our great host Jonathan Miley.

DLC - Video Game / Board Game Podcast

One of my favorite video game podcast that isn't my own is DLC with hosts Christian Spicer and Jeff Cannata (formally of Weekend Confirmed). What I love is that not only do they talk video games but also board games. I've taken their recommendations a couple of times for board games and Jenn and I have really enjoyed them.

Sword and Laser - Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Club

In the past couple of years I've really gotten into the fantasy book genre. A lot of that has to do with joining GoodReads.com and listening to Sword and Laser with Veronica Belmont and Tom Merritt. Some of my favorite books of the past years have been in the fantasy sci-fi genre with books like A Game of Thrones, A Name of the Wind, and The Martian

/Filmcast - Movie Podcast

I've always loved movies. In fact easily one of my favorite movies I've seen this year Boyhood was on the recommendation of 2/3's of the /Filmcast. It's a fantastic podcast where they review a movie a week and talk about what's new in the industry. What I like too is that they talk about both big budget movies and indie films. A really good variety.

Cordkillers - TV/Movies & Cutting the Cord

Formerly called Frame Rate on the TWIT network, Brian Brushwood and Tom Merritt moved their show independent at the start of 2014 and its been great. The shows motto is to watch what you want, when you want, on any device you want and is a sentiment I totally can get behind. Jenn and I talk all the time about canceling our cable service outright and rely on digital services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and the like to get our entertainment from.

We Have Concerns - Variety/Comedy Show

The most recent addition to my podcast lineup is We Have Concerns with Jeff Cannata (of DLC from above) and Anthony Carboni. It's a variety show they just started doing discussing things that concern them from robots to feeling guilty about your Netflix queue. It's a fantastic short podcast that I look forward to every time I see a new one come out.

Macbreak Weekly - Apple News/Rumors

I've been watching Leo Laporte since his days on ZDTV, TechTV, and G4. When Leo opened up Twit.tv I followed there too. Now I'm not as big of a fan of Leo but I still catch a couple of his podcasts. The first one and the one I've been listening to the longest is Macbreak Weekly. Its a perfect fix of Apple news each week to get excited about what is to come from Apple.

iPad Today - iPad Show

I don't catch every week of iPad Today but it is a fun show to catch when I can. The combination of Leo Laporte and Sarah Lane talking about the iPad each week makes for a fun show. I usually watch it while I'm cooking or working on Darkstation.

Beyond - Video Game Podcast

I check a number of video game websites out each day. One of my go-to views is IGN. I've actually met both of their hosts at video game events in the past which makes watching it even more fun. What's nice is their podcast is available on the Playstation 4 so watching it while I cook is a weekly occurrence.
