I've Been Reviewing Some Great Games

I'm not sure why I don't feature more of my video game writing here on my blog. Although much of my role on Darkstation has been overseeing content rather then writing it, every once in a while I get the urge to sit and the keyboard and hash out a few reviews. In the last month (or so) I've reviewed five games for Darkstation and I thought it would be nice to feature those on here.

#1 MLB 14: The Show (PS4)

In the end MLB 14: The Show is an excellent game of baseball, and is made even better on the Playstation 4. The game is drop dead gorgeous and comes in as one of the best looking sports games on the market to-date. Combine that with arguably one of the deepest sports experiences and this comes in as just an all-around incredible baseball experience that shouldn’t be missed.

Even with all of this being said 1849 is a great experience. It absolutely nails the mechanics for a city-builder and makes it super easy to jump in and build a great city. The game’s biggest drawback is its scope. Because of the setting and the small scale of cities you won’t spend more than an hour on any city. And for that I’d still recommend 1849 to anyone craving a city-builder just don’t expect the massive scale of other city builders on the market currently.

Child of Light is one of the most enjoyable and beautiful games I’ve played so far in 2014. It’s bursting with charm and had me grinning from ear to ear for its ten hour story. My only hope is this isn’t the last we see of Aurora and this beautiful world. If you haven’t yet gone on the Child of Light journey I implore you to stop reading now and go play this game. For $15 your not going to find a better value all year.

I probably don’t need to say this but Nintendo knows what it’s doing when it comes to the Mario Kart franchise. Time after time, they come back with exceptional racing games and Mario Kart 8 might be the best we’ve ever seen. The track designs are gorgeous and innovative. The racing has been rebalanced to be less frustrating and yet wildly competitive. All I’m really left with is that Mario Kart 8 might be the single best entry into the series and is one of the best games of 2014. If you have a Wii U why wouldn’t you buy this game?

Watch Dogs is far and away the best game to released for the new consoles. It’s overflowing with incredible content to be enjoyed and the beautiful city of Chicago to explore. This game could be the start of a truly incredible franchise.
