My Most Anticipated Movies of Summer 2014

Last year I started a new tradition on WorldofJoel, too pick my most anticipated movies of the summer. It seems like each summer I get crazy high expectations for a bunch of movies and then am somehow disappointed that 75% of them don't pan out. It's usually a movie I've never heard of that ends up being my favorite. Alas its now tradition and I am here with my list of summer blockbusters I can't wait to see this summer (and technically spring).

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014)

Even though the first Captain America movie was pretty cheesy, all signs point to Winter Soldier being a much, much better movie. Now that the Captain is in modern day, you can expect a much more modern action movie, and one I think might end up being one of the best movies of the summer.

Transcendence (April 18, 2014)

I am so 50/50 on this movie. On one hand I love the concept of using your brain after death, but on the other the trailers so far don't sell me on it being a good movie. Here is too hoping that this movie surprises us.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (May 2, 2014)

I'm a huge sucker for Spider-Man. Whether it be the original Tobey Maguire movies (besides the third) or the new ones with Andrew Garfield, I'm in. I actually thought that The Amazing Spider-Man was a better movie then any of the Maguire ones which makes me even more excited to see what they do with the second movie.

Godzilla (May 16, 2014)

Here's another movie that probably won't be any good. Has there ever been a good Godzilla movie before? Not to my recollection, especially the last one. The good news about this Godzilla are the trailers look really good.

Million Dollar Arm (May 16, 2014)

I really doubt I'll see this in theaters, but any movie with Mr. Draper has my attention. Combine that with a baseball movie and you can count me in.

X-Men: Days of Future Past (May 23, 2014)

I've loved almost all of the X-Men movies so far, and am probably the most excited for Days of the Future Past. The combination of the old and young X-Men is sure to prove to be quite an epic action movie. I'm super curious how they handle all those X-Men at once but all signs are pointing for this to be one of the biggest movies of the summer.

A Million Ways to Die in the West (May 30, 2014)

What is being touted as the next Hangover style summer comedy, Seth MacFarlane stars in his own movie. From the trailers the movie looks great, lets hope its as good as it looks.

Edge of Tomorrow (June 4, 2014)

I feel like 99% of the time a Tom Cruise movie is going to burn me. They always have these crazy over the top premises that seem really neat but the movies never turn out to be any good. Take last years movie Oblivion which had amazing trailers and turned out to be a dud. Hopefully Edge of Tomorrow is better.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (July 18, 2014)

The first Planet of the Apes was a huge surprise. First it was a surprise that they rebooted the franchise again after the Mark Wahlberg Planet of the Apes movie didn't do well ten years ago. Luckily, Rise of the Planet of the Apes was an incredible movie and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes looks even better. Cannot wait for this one.
