My Top 5 Games of 2014
A couple days back I posted my Top 5 Games of 2014 for Darkstation. Unlike in 2013 which had an incredible lineup of games, 2014 was a bit of a down year for the industry. With new consoles there is always a gap where developers are trying to figure out the best way to utilize the new hardware. That's not to say there weren't any good games this year it was just harder to figure out what my top 5 would be.
What's interesting is that four of my five games were played on the Playstation 4. In fact for most of 2014 I exclusively used the PS4 as my console of choice. It wasn't until the last couple of months that I've started to use my Xbox One. I expect next year that I'll see a bit more of a mix of consoles. I also expect that next year picking my top 5 will be a far more exciting proposition. Its funny when I look at my top 5 games this year only the top 2 would have even potentially made my list in 2013.
#5: Watch Dogs
#4: Child of Light
#3: Mario Kart 8
#2: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
#1: Far Cry 4
I absolutely love Far Cry 4. It's a video game in every aspect of the meaning. Its an open world that just lets you dive in and do what you want. At the time of this post I've put over 20 hours into the game and am a little under 40% through the game. The thing is the best part of that game is just enjoying this massive world that Ubisoft created. Whether its hunting, taking down outposts, climbing radio towers or taking part with the multitude of random stuff that happens in the world the experience is a true joy. Far Cry 4 is the type of game that once I finish I could see myself 6-12 months down the line starting a new game and experiencing the world all over again.
If you want to hear me talk for a couple of hours with Brian and Jonathan about all of my Game of the Year thoughts head on over to Darkstation.
