Movie Review: Whiplash
One of my favorite movies of the last couple of years was The Spectacular Now. If you haven't seen that movie you really need to do yourself a favor and go see it. Miles Teller who before that movie was known more as a comedic actor provided one of the best performances I've ever seen. It was a great movie. So when I saw the trailer for his newest movie Whiplash I was in.
In Whiplash, he plays a young guy who is following his dream of becoming a world renown drummer. He gets into a Julliard style school in which he joins JK Simmons who plays the schools biggest musical instructor. JK Simmons character is insanely passionate and as you can see from the trailer a little insane. The hour and half movie is an intense roller-coaster ride that left the audience standing to applaud after the last fifteen minutes.
Speaking of the last fifteen minutes of that movie might be the most intense movie moments I can remember. I had to remind myself on several occasions to keep breathing. I saw the movie with Jake and we both were completely energized coming out of the late night showing. There were some parts of the story that didn't necessarily click, but all in all this was one of the most intense and enjoyable movies I've seen all year. Both Miles Teller and JK Simmons deserve some serious consideration during awards season this year.
