My Top 5 Games of 2013

Last week I posted my Top 5 Games of 2013 over on Darkstation. The list comprises of my favorite games of this year and so fittingly I'm carrying it over to my blog. This year was a unique year for the industry, two new consoles being released within a week of each-other. Historically that means developers will offload whatever games they still have in development as quick as possible to then clear the way for their new games on the new tech.

This year all of my picks with the exception of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag were played on previous consoles 360, PS3, or Wii U. My bet is that there won't be any games this time next year that I played on either the 360 or PS3, and only a slight chance for Wii U. So without further ado or spending more time jabbering about video game trend and analysis here are my Top 5 games of 2013:

#5: Tomb Raider

#4: Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

#3: Super Mario 3D World

#2: Grand Theft Auto V

#1: The Last of Us

The Last of Us was one of the easiest choices I've had for a game of the year vote. The narrative connected with me more than almost any game I’ve ever played. The complexity of not only the games main characters of Joel and Ellie but the world in which they lived is unparalleled. I absolutely loved the journey that you take in The Last of Us and for that it received my vote for Game of the Year.

If you want to here me talk about all sorts of end of the year video game stuff you can listen to the recently posted second part of our four part game of the year deliberations over at Darkstation
