Dinner Review - Sol Cocina

A couple weeks back Jake came down on a Friday night which brought up the age old question, what's for dinner. We were really contemplating going to some of our favorite staples like The Crow Bar and Spaghetti Bender. But we finally landed on doing something different and went with Sol Cocina on PCH in Newport.

Jenn and I had got on a Travelzoo deal a couple of years ago to Sol Cocina and loved it. And yet we never went back. So we were all excited to go there and had reservations for 5:30 on a Friday night. When we got there the place was empty but by the time we left at close to 7PM that place was packed. Luckily because we got there before the rush we had an awesome seat with views of the bay.

For dinner we started with Mexican corn which we thought would be off the cob but still was out of this world. Had so much flavor. Who knew corn could be this good? For our main courses Jake had the chicken quesadilla, Jenn had a steak and shrimp taco, and I had the carne asada street tacos. We all loved everything. There was barely anything on the plates when we finished. One of the highlights wasn't actually the main courses but the incredible bean dip that came with the chips and salsa.

After dinner we drove to Crystal Cove and took in the beautiful evening. Jake took us to a "secret spot" where we of course had to take 100's of pictures of him. Luckily Jenn and I got some pictures in as well. It was a great night and I hope we can continue to try new places to eat rather then going with the tried and true.
