So today as I was hanging around my girlfriend Jenn’s house we were checking out our expanding DVD collection which we have building for a year or so. I believe it was a year ago now we decided to buy two DVD’s each a month, these DVD’s would be taken from our list and tht way we could really have something to look forward to each month and have a nice collection. Well that trend stopped at the end of 2006 and I haven’t bought many movies recently. So I decided it was time to expand a bit and get a few of my favorites that I haven’t gotten around to buying. The total for all four was like $20 on Half.com which were either Brand New or Like New. Here is the list:

- Antitrust
- Spider-Man
- Batman Begins
- Oceans Twelve (Order Got Canceled)

Batman Begins

Well Jenn and I even before Movie-Stop.net have tried to build up our DVD library so when we get married we have an extremely elusive and impressive collection. I recently purchased Rocky Balboa and Casino Royale and have some movies I am looking to add to the collection. So right now I am searching eBay and Half.com for the best deals. Here are some of the movies I want to buy that are out now or will be sometime this year:

- The Office Season 3
- Jericho Season 1
- Heroes Season 1
- The Pursuit of Happyness
- Blood Diamond
- The Prestige
- Batman Begins
- World Trade Center
- The Godfather Trilogy
- Greatest Game Ever Played
- Breach
- Antitrust

In a recent survey that is hitting many blogs begs the question, do you have a life. This survey asks that you put an “X” next to each movie that you have seen. If you have over “85″ X’ed off then you do not have a life. Apparently my ‘94′ movies X’ed off means that I have no life.

So I thought since I have slowed down a bit on my posts to give everyone an update on the latest in the World of Joel. First and for most my latest project Movie-Stop.net is getting close to completion and we are just any day now from launching the website. My younger brother Jake and I are working hard on getting a good database of movies already in there and working on getting at least a few reviews ready for the launch. I know we are both really excited about that new project and the many ways it could potentially lead us.

This week you may also see the addition of some Blog’s I read. I only have two, but that is just for right now, as more come along, I will post up more. And if you are interested in exchanging links the e-mail is joel[at]worldofjoel.com! First on the list is Bob Buskirk who is the owner of ThinkComputers a website I wrote for a long time ago when I was just getting into hardware reviews. I then have David Lithman who I have talked to once and seems to be a pretty interesting guy trying to make a living online. So those are the first two and I am sure many are on the way.

Finally UC Irvine is in full swing and so far so good. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the transformation from my two 1/2 years at Cal State San Bernardino, but so far so good, nothing seems all that different. I have gone to advising twice since starting and both times they have told me I need to wait until my next quarter to change majors, so here I am sitting and waiting. To get into UCI I had to put down I wanted to be a Studio Art major (Economics was not available), and thus I was accepted under that major and now I need to transfer into Business Economics the major that I want to be in, so there is some added pressure for me to do well this quarter.

Anyways besides that the World of Joel is just that, The World of Joel. Jenn and I are busy as always studying away and like I said stay tuned for Movie-Stop.net it should be coming any day now, and I think most of you will be pretty impressed!

It has been a long time since the Italian Stallion walked through the ropes, in fact Rocky hasn’t seen the inside of a ring since Rocky IV back in 1985. But Sly is back at again in the last chapter in the epic Rocky franchise entitled Rocky Balboa.

Going into this movie I have to admit I was as pumped to see this movie as physically possible. I am a big fan of the series in general and couldn’t wait to see Rocky hit the ring one last time. Obviously Sly isn’t as young as he once was but the movie manages to use his age to his advantage bringing one of the most inspired films the series has seen since the original. Rocky once again finds himself at the lowest of lows and you get the experience his dedication and determination in action as he faces all odds in his last fight against Mason “The Line” Dixon the reigning heavy weight champion.

Rocky Balboa’s sole purpose as a movie is to give a proper closure to what is one of the most beloved movie franchise of all time. And Sylvester Stallone nails it dead on with a movie that goes back to the basics and does what a Rocky movie should do, it inspires. Rocky Balboa starts off a bit slow but at the end the theater will be thundering with applause and you will remember exactly why Rocky is so loved. If there is one movie this holiday season that is going to motivate those in rough times Rocky Balboa is the one to see. Not only as a fan of the franchise but an avid movie goer I have to say that Rocky Balboa redeems the franchise by closing the series the way the Italian Stallion would have wanted it.

Score: 10/10

Rocky Balboa

Whenever there is a movie with a great message I try to post the movie trailer, and what better then a movie about the birth of our Lord and Savior! The Nativity Story I believe is scheduled to come out this year, and is definitely a must see movie!

Gotta Love Rocky! I am going to be there on opening day!!

Many times I just come across movies I want to see and today was a day where I saw a movie trailer that just struck me as original. Sure we have seen a lot of football movies, but one that also preaches the word of God? Now that seems like the ultimate combo!

This is one of those things that I am not sure what to feel. In one way I am happy that we are preaching the good news of Jesus Christ to our youth, but is this movie to extreme? I don’t know, but you can judge by watching the trailer below! Seems like a different movie, I look forward to watching it. It has been added to my Netflix Queue.

Yesterday I was lucky enough to be able to watch a double header of movies which included United 93 and Akeelah in Bee. Both of these movies were really quite good in their own right, but something stood out to me in a big way in the movie Akeelah and the Bee. This movie was about a young girl from LA who was going for the National Spelling Bee. Well anyways there was a quote in the movie that was told to the main character and I really liked it. And if you get a chance you should really rent this movie. Anyways here is the quote:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be?”
