Hey everyone I am sure there are a few of you who were surprised not to see a post in a few days. Well in fact there is a reason for the absence. On my way to work (the bank) on Thursday afternoon I received a phone call from Jenn’s mom informing me of the serious condition of her grandfather who had been struggling from lung cancer (having never smoked a day in his life). I was blessed by my manager to be able to leave work, pick up Jenn at the end of her shift and go visit her grandpa. The last few days up until extremely early this morning (at around 1am) we had spent at the hospital with her Grandpa and much of her family. The decision was made late last night and early this morning to take him off of life support as his internal organs were beginning to shut down. The process was one of the most excruciating processes I have ever been through and to see her Grandpa go like that was hard for everyone.
Jenn’s grandpa was a real character. After losing my grandpa over five years ago it was nice to still have someone to look at like a Grandpa, which was exactly what Jenn’s grandpa was. The last I spoke to him was a week ago or so when we were just stopping by to see how he was doing and helping with a few things around the house. I spoke to him for a few minutes and he was struggling to talk but he did tell me to not let anything really get under your skin or to let things stress you, he said looking back on his life everything that he ever worried about worked out.
We all loved Jenn’s grandpa (Al Carpenter) and we will definitely miss him.

Yes WorldofJoel faithfuls, the first part of our big announcement here on WorldofJoel is the introduction of the World of Joel Podcast. This is our first episode, we are entitling “Test Run” and it is going to be a trial run to see our interest in the podcast. The idea behind the podcast is to instead of focusing on such a specific topic like “Gaming” or “Movies” to instead just focus on whatever is going on around the world. I am still trying to focus down on a name for the podcast, I am thinking, The World Goes Round, but any feedback on the name or the podcast would be great. Let me know what you all think and if it seems like there is an interest in keeping the podcast going then I am 100% ready to consistently bring in a podcast for everyone’s listening pleasure. Please let me know, feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Very rarley in sports do the top two seeds make it to the championship match, and in the case of the French Open the last two years the two top players in the tennis world have made it to the French Open final. Last year it was decided in a pretty good match that ended in the favor of Nadal. As some of you have read on an earlier post, Nadal is not my favorite, and I really hope Fed. can take him out especially because then that sets up for the chance of the ever glorified “Grand Slam” which Federer would be half way to completing having already won the Australian Open this year. Hopefully this Sunday we see the match of the ages, or at least one with Federer hosting the trophy.

I just came across this video on Youtube, and I am a huge Back to the Future fan, and you can’t love the trilogy without giving a lot of credit to Tom Wilson who plays Biff. He has a stand up act and this is a song he does about Questions he gets. It is absolutely hilarious and probably worth a second and third viewing.

According to TV Guide: ” Multiple sources are telling me that CBS is thisclose to sealing a deal to bring Jericho back for at least eight episodes, possibly at mid-season.
My spies caution that this is in no way official, but it certainly sounds like it could be by day’s end. It’s now just a matter of signing the actors to new deals and, according to one insider, finding a new soundstage to house the show’s sets.
To say this would be a huge victory for crazy TV fans everywhere would be the understatement of the frakkin’ millennium.”
Finally the hard work, determination of the Jericho fans have paid off, lets get Jericho back on!

Sure the new Apple iPhone is expensive, but I have to say that as much as I dislike Cingular, I am really thinking about investing in an iPhone. After watching this commercial on just how impressive this phone is its hard to be anything but impressed. This looks like it could be a big breakthrough again for Apple. Critics throw down your guard for thirty seconds and watch this video and tell me it doesn’t impress you just a little bit.

I may be a bit biased on this topic, or maybe the fact that I watch the sport of tennis tells me that Roger Federer is the most underrated and unknown superstar of our time. This is a man who has won almost every single major, in fact he has won the last ten out of fifteen grand slams. That is just unheard of. Currently he is going for the French Open where he has never won, and if all holds together he will face Rafael Nadal in the finals one of the only tennis player out on the tour who has a winning record against Federer. Being a fan of the sport I have to say watching Federer is really a remarkable experience, he is probably the best at making things look easy. Unlike Tiger Woods who gets really pumped and riled up when he does well which makes for great TV, Federer just goes about his business never breaking a sweat. I never was a fan of Federer until I continued to watch him and the fact that this man can just annihilate some of the best pro’s on the tour is reason enough to enjoy watching him. Lets go win the French Roger!

Having been in college since September 2004 I have to say I am starting to feel the burn of my brain telling me it never wants to read another text book, cram for another exam, and stress about grades ever again. Making the change to UC Irvine has been a challenging one and has made me choose to really rack my brain to the point of no return. In some sense its a good thing, the place is extremely challenging and definitely keeps me on my toes. On the other hand it means that the majority of my time is spent reading, studying, doing homework, and oh did I mention studying? Well what does this have to do with a need of a change?
There is a big part of me that has wanted to move out. I think every guy or girl gets this feeling throughout the end of high school and into there college years, just out of pure nature. Having lived at home for now my first three years of college, and having “at least” another year if not more of school left, I am getting the need to get out and be more independent. The truth of the matter is I am rarely home at all, when I am not at school I am working, and when I am not doing those two things I am usually sleeping or studying. Jenn and I spend very little time enjoying each others company (outside of this last three day weekend, we hadn’t had a date for months). So why the need to get out? I have lived in the same house for 98% of my life, the same bedroom for 95% of my life, and shared a room with my brother for a good portion of it as well. And not to complain, since I have nothing to complain about, I just want to have a bit of freedom, a bit of independence, and a bit of change. That is a big step coming from a guy who hates the thought of change most of the time however I have this strong desire to have something new.
Does that mean I will move out? Well I am still tossing the idea around, it will take some prayer and some time to decide what to do, but the need for something new or different is definitely alive.
“O Lord, you alone are my hope. I’ve trusted you, O Lord, from childhood.” Psalm 71:5 NLT
